I tried looking up if shrooms even have genders, and holy hell the wikipedia article "Mating in fungi" is one of those where you barely understand the introduction without having studied biology.
Yep, Schizophyllum commune, a highly schizoid mushroom, apparently has ~23000 genders. Next time a conservative complains about LGBT people making genders too complicated I'm going to throw a porcini at them.
Sorta. Shroom have "mating types," which basically determines which ones can reproduce together. It's the closest thing to a "biological sex" they have, though the similarities mostly end there. And yes, the split-gill mushroom has over 20,000 "sexes".
