Tankie instances. Often they promote imperialism (so long as its not western) and often have the uncritical "both sides are bad" that the enlightened centrists do (worse as they are socially aware). Many of those communities are pretty heavy in their censorship as well.
I'm empathetic to tankies as we ultimately agree on a lot, but their uncritical and unpragmatic takes are quite frustrating.
The devs of lemmy are marxist-leninist. Their main instance is lemmy.ml, so you'll see a lot of anti-imperialist viewpoints calling out US state propaganda that the liberals think is rooted in blind devotion to the PRC, Russia or whatever narrative is currently being challenged.
The owners of that instance are communists, the reputation is that it's a "tankie instance". All in all, people like to make drama about nothing - what instance you are on doesn't really matter as long as it's federated with instances you want to see content from. I have a couple of different accounts, across instances and since I don't only browse ml communities, the experience is essentially the same as my dbzero account or some others.
Someone going to learn about the
.ml
Ok, I know I’m using an .ml account right now, but I don’t understand—does the lemmy.ml domain have some sort of reputation?

I'm loving the lost lemmy in a lost lemmy thread. Welcome! You're loved my friend.
Can someone verify if ml stands for Marxist-Leninist? I assumed that's why the tankies flock there.
I believe it's the domain for Malaysia.
Yes
