I got a Miele after years of Dyson and Shark vaccums. They are old school canister style and use bags, but I have no complaints about it.
I bought a Miele canister vacuum 9 years ago. That thing is still working great. I've never had an issue. I use it on hard floors and carpet. Best vacuum I've had.
They’re very good but there are cheaper alternatives. I watched a video where a guy did a teardown and he was remarking that a lot of the tech wasn’t particularly unique but it was exceptionally well made. We had a vacuum cleaner and it lasted 10 years without missing a beat but it certainly became less effective.
The other answers are all good. Dyson are top of the line. But "worth" it is a question you can only answer with "it depends". I love our dyson products. They are solid, effective, quiet and you can get something almost as good for a third of the price. But the operational word here is "almost".
Just get a new battery and new filters every now and then, and just like brand new. Expensive yes, high quality yes. If you can afford it, I would recommend.
Both Dysons I've ever purchased have broken two months into ownership. Never again.
We have had a dyson animal vac for 14 years; still goes extremely well. Had to replace the turbine head a year or two back. Otherwise works great.
My wife bought an upright dyson back in 2014, 11 years later and it still has great suction with only minor maintenance. I think the hardest repair I had to do was replacing a hard plastic part I broke, the replacement part was pretty cheap on Amazon and it was simple to install.
Definitely made me think about the number of cheap vacuums I went through before it.
I got a Dyson Animal to replace a tiny shark handheld and the Dyson is such a heavy plasticky piece of shit. I feel like such a jackass that I paid so much for it. It’s got crazy suction and that’s the only positive I can give, everything else, and I mean everything, is utterly awful. And even with that, it’s still shit because the head/brush design doesn’t allow anything to actually be sucked in. It also doesn’t even have a light on the front for fucks sake. Actually 0/10 do not buy a Dyson animal.
Dyson spheres are ridiculously wasteful and nearly impossible to build, even if you do need a sun-sized fusion reactor
From a tech standpoint, Dyson makes some pretty innovative devices. I've bought 2 of their vacuums, and gifted one to my parents because the cheapo WalMart one they had didn't work that well. There's definitely cheaper alternatives out there, though! If you're in the US, I've seen Shark recommended as a good alternative for a much lower cost with equal performance.
