Hello? If he had survived, they all would have survived. And it would have been handled the way it was in the past, by intimidating anyone who dared speak up. Billionaires have carte blanche to do whatever they want without penalty. That's just how it works.

  I think the answer to your confusion is “if he weren’t in the sub when it imploded.”
- He wasn't always the pilot, many times he sent college students to the bottom with minimal training.
  If it imploded and he wasn't on the sub then he would have been criminally charged.
