This could be especially good for new users who do not understand the command line or those who have used the command line on another os and need to understand the command usage on Linux.
As a Windows and Mac/iOS user, this is great to see. I tried switching to Linux a few different times over the years but it always seemed out of reach with its complexities, community gatekeepers, and lack of (but vastly improved and still continual improvement with) game/steam support.
With these educational mini-games though, I may give it another shot soon! Then the only real hurdle will be figuring out how to get Linux to play nice with my gpu (rtx 4000 series). I read that Bazzite is the way to go for gaming but I see that it’s still not quite working properly with my gpu, but maybe there’s something I’m not aware of?
I tried switching multiple times as well over the years. Often kept an older computer running linux but wine was a major pain to get working with everything. Steam and Proton has been amazing. I'm running Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04LTS with a GTX1080ti and outside of it being an older gpu it all runs really well.
I was a DOS kid and understand how to move around and do a few other things but feel more comfortable with a GUI for most stuff. FreeBSD feels better to me for command line stuff for some reason but I have been using only open source operating systems for over a year.
My stepson's computer is running ChimeraOS (an immutable distro) and outside of a networking issue I had to fix by removing the profile and adding it in again it had worked perfectly. He has a RX 7600 GPU however.
It's worth making the effort and a lot easier now than it used to be. I started trying around 2005.

I was in the same boat as you a month ago, Bazzite has been great. Keep in mind it’s an immutable distro which does make it a bit more annoying to use the command line if, like me, you have no idea what you’re doing. Personally I’m looking to switch away from it soon because of that but it works great with steam and I’m using a 3060 and haven’t had issues. Just make sure to choose the iso file for nvidia drivers to make easier to set up at the start.
https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/ explains very well how to approach it. There are different ways to install packages not pre loaded into bazzite in a very safe way. Have a look :)
I see, didn’t know that about Bazzite but good to know! I’m no expert by a long shot, but luckily I have some experience with coding in vim. So I think like you, I would want something I can really fine tune myself.
If you're not on it already, join the discord. Lots of helpers there. I recommend sticking with Bazzite and learning how to use it better. It has the tools you need to run anything you could run in any other distro. You just can't always copy and paste commands from a Google search. But that's where the discord can set you straight.
