Canada didn’t elect Trump so why are we letting him lower our standards!?
Whoever downvoted you: may your body be preserved forever by forever chemicals to such an extent that you're used in a 26th century biology class, under a subheading that reads "the ignorance of our ancestors".
I am all for using them as an example in the future but IMO all of their space dust when they die should go to the furthest reaches of the farthest point of the most unused part of the universe so that their space dust will never sully us again.
Because that's how US hegemony has always worked. We're just hit straight in the face with it at this moment when we're also paying attention and we really see it. This is how this fucking power is projected. You change all of these rules in your country to make it more profitable for my corporations to exploit your labour and resources, if you want to trade with me. Oh and if you put your elbows up and I really want something you have, I'll coup or destabilize your ass into submission.
It's depressing.
Canadians are healthier and more educated than your average American so each one of can fight back more effectively.
Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea are in a similar boat and blow their large regional neighbours out of the water in numerous metrics. We need to force Mark Carney to act better or replace him with a majority NDP leader. The 2 dominant parties can be overtaken.
If we held our government more accountable Canada would’ve had more independent from America’s bad choices.
Cause we did elect the guy that doesn't give a shit about the environment and hasn't done shit to stand up against Trump.
It's not nearly as trivial as this. Trump has the power to singlehandedly halt the auto industry production in Canada. He can unemploy hundreds of thousands of people in Ontario, disrupting millions of people's lives in their families and communities. Whoever is elected PM can't just sacrifice these people. In fact I would expect a more worker friendly PM, say from NDP, to be even more protective. In such a scenario, they can't afford to just flip off Trump, given the power he has over Canadian workers. The PM is forced to contend with this power and its effects. I'm not defending any of Carney's decisions, made or would be. I'm expaining why anyone in the PM shoes is faced with a terrible predicament when faced with Trump.
TARRIFS!
Fucking hell. We worked a lot lobbying for these rules and they're a rare win for people and the environment we live in. I seriously hope this doesn't materialize.
