I want self host a media server with jellyfin, sonarr, radarr, prowlarr and qbittorrent and immich and nextcloud drive on a truenas scale. What sff do you recommend ?that can accommodate 2 ssd, and 4 4tb hdd?thank you
If you're thinking about building one, the Jonsbo N4 is a compact case (~20L) that fits up to six 3.5" drives and two 2.5" drives/SSDs. It’s a nice choice if you want something small but expandable. Just note that you’ll need to pick out your own components, and there are some limits when it comes to power supplies and CPU coolers.
Get the gen of Intel CPU you can afford purely for hw transcoding. 6th-8th gen is good, newer gets you more, even av1 becomes an option.
If you have a NAS, great, store videos there. If you dont, I'd upgrade the t/m/m with an m.2 and (config dependant) you can usually stick a 2.5" in there as well.
Proxmox for the OS, run lxc's for the individual services you want, or make a docker LXC and run them in there. Personally I just make an LXC for each service.
you can get away with half that. i run my setup (similar to what you wrote) on a dell micro sff with an i5 6500t and 16gb ram that i paid 90€ for. not the snappiest, but works just fine.
I went a bit more then a couple hundred, but if you buy some parts used, you can probably get something close to this. It's super quiet, very low energy use, just works up there on the cabinet in my home office.
Edit: the case is a bit bigger, not exactly sff, but still small enough. The important thing is that it fits 6 big drives and could fit a few more ssds (currently it has 4 + an ssd), and even more important, low power = low electricity bill, low noise = I forget about it.
It runs jelly, hosts my photography hobby, has a few play services I rarely use.
