Obama should just call Canada and lay out the new trade deal, and insist that Canada refer to it as "Obama's Trade Deal".
If trump refuses to sign it, America loses. If he does sign, he's signing something called Obamas Trade Deal.
As fun as this is to fantasize about, it would actually be illegal.
I mean trump proved the Logan act is completely toothless, if that's what you're alluding to. Obama should do it.

The bottom line: While Trump's actions might be "unseemly," the history of the Logan Act and the fact that it's never been legally tested mean that it's not a "meaningful law" that's "likely to ever be used, against Trump or anyone else"
