Andrew Cuomo will not drop out of the New York City mayoral race by the Friday deadline to remove himself from the general election ballot, sources tell CNN. That leaves in place contingency plans he had established before the Democratic primary to challenge Zohran Mamdani and incumbent Mayor Eric A...
Some people on Twitter (not saying it's a good or reliable source of news or political analysis, of course) were saying it's more likely to peel votes off of Adams; desperately hoping so…
He will definitely be splitting votes with Adams. That elusive centrist vote that Dems are always trying to go after.
Mamdani will get new voters and also voters that want a younger face. Many voters have tried corporate Dems for their whole life. They want something new.
How does he not get expelled from the democratic party for that?
The party ran a primary, he lost. Now he wants to run against the democratic party candidate? Ok fin but be on your own bud. You’re expelled.
You know, as a spoiler I get the sense he'll just make things that much worse for Adams. Friends in NYC I talked to said the only thing they didn't particularly like about Zohran was potential Defund the Police stuff. Yet, Adams and Cuomo are both pro-police centrists, so that vote gets split (aka deplorable vote).
You know, it's like how everyone saw RFK Jr. as a dem spoiler until polls showed he was taking more from Trump (hence him taking a bribe to drop out).
I don’t understand this. Is Cuomo listed as a Democrat on the next ballot? If so, what is the purpose of a primary, if a losing candidate can just keep running in the main election? Can anyone just put their name on the main ballot?
No, if he runs it will be as an independent, and he would have to meet whatever requirements NYC has for getting in the ballot as a third party/unaffiliated candidate. Theoretically he could even win as a write-in candidate without ever even qualifying for the ballot as that’s really just to keep ballots from being potentially ginormous. It’s only shitty because it’s him haha. The main thing is that by winning the primary Mamdani has secured access to the democrats party infrastructure while denying it to Cuomo. That’s not to say that the insiders in the party won’t be in the tank for Cuomo, but as far as party resources go it should all be Zohran.
How? How does an average American do that? If they want him gone he could be detained and shipped out long before anyone could gather to say "no please if you wouldn't mind not destroying democracy more than you already have...."
(Note I am not an American, but seeing the state your country is in gives me anxiety by proxy. What would I be able to do if I was one?)
Of course he will still be on the ballot. Now they can fire up those alleged, but maybe not alleged funky doodle voting machines so he can magically win.
