Finally sharpened my pocket knife
Have owned the same pocket knife for a few years, and kind of got weirdly attached to it. Decided to pick up a sharpening stone, hydrated it as per instructions, and sharpened up my old blade. It cuts like new now!
I'm sorry, but now that it's sharp again, your knife can no longer be in the dull club.

May I ask what kind of sharpener you used? My pocket knife is overdue for a sharpening as well.
I specifically used a generic hardware store sharpening stone, here's the specific one I got

How much time did you spend sharpening it? I've been considering buying a sharpening stone, but I'm not sure about the manual labor involved.
Honestly I didn't invest too much time. Maybe 5 minutes on each side of the stone? (the stone has a lower and higher grit side). I'd say it's not a lot of labor, a lot less than I was expecting tbh
I see a lot of people get scared by the prospect of sharpening and it's nothing to be afraid of.
Provided you don't want to get so far into it that flawlessly sharpening knives becomes your entire pesonality (some guys do indeed make it their sole hobby, apparently) all you need is a decent double sided stone or maybe three diamond stones and you can produce an edge that's quite good enough for nomal people.
Freehand sharpening on a stone isn't for everyone and for that reason I propose there's nothing wrong with a guided sharpening jig of some description. If you only want to buy one thing I always recommend the Work Sharp Field Sharpener.
Sharpening a blade that's in decent condition on a stone should only take a few minutes. If it's badly dinged up or needs a new edge entirely it can take a lot longer though. I spend about an hour every couple months to sharpen all of our kitchen knives, it's 100% worth it.
If the labor and skill involved is a concern, get a Work Sharp. It's like a little belt sander with guides. No folksy "man" value to be had, but all my knives get sharpened with no effort in like 10 minutes.
