They hurt like hell if you don't prepare. Trying the hair length to the epilator's instruction, exfoliate, moisturize. Be prepared for to to possibly hurt. I have very thick hairs so no matter what i do it hurts, without prep i was in tears, with proper preparations and following the instructions/recommendations of the epilator, it doesn't hurt as bad. YMMV
People say they hurt but tbh I find them relaxing, not painful. I have the Braun Silk Epi. It works well and is reliable. I like that it comes with a razor attachment since I use that on pubes and armpits
I have a Braun Silk-Epile that I really like because there's so many interchangeable tops. You can use it to trim hair down before you epilate, and it also has nice little massage heads to help exfoliate and prevent ingrown hairs. They also have a decent replacement policy, I lost my charger during a move and they sent me a new one very fast.
I also really like how easy it is to clean. I tried another brand before that had a complicated mechanism for opening the housing to remove the hair. Not fun spending as much time cleaning as you do removing hair lol
(also, for transparency: I'm an afab nb that was on T and have gone back in the closet because US politics. So I've used this mostly on my face and neck)
Those things HURT. Invest in a hot wax pot. Talk to the people at the beauty supply for whether hard white wax or honey wax is best. Waxing hurts too, but tends to go faster.
I use a Panasonic soie (ES-WS35). You have to go pretty slowly to get good coverage; it takes maybe two hours for me to do my whole body. But then you're good for weeks.
And yeah, the first time hurts quite a bit. Once you get into maintenance it's not that bad.
