Every once in a while I'm reminded that it's ok to not have an opinion on stuff. And it's usually when I wake up and log on and see all the replies that I get a little anxiety adrenaline rush: "oh shit, what did I do..?".
I wish there were a way to mute notifications on posts alone. I always forget that I posted something, and the number of seemingly spontaneous replies makes me wonder whether I’ve pissed several people off.
To elaborate: one of the top features that I switched to PieFed for was the ability to choose to either receive or arguably more importantly NOT receive notifications on pretty much everything. Communities, users, individual posts, comment replies, you name it. There is a little bell icon that you simply press to toggle and then receive - or don't - the replies from then on out. Reverse the decision at any time. Or there's a listing somewhere to clean up old stuff.
I accidentally made a comment on Hexbear.net once, and then again on lemmygrad.ml, each of which triggered replies to me for WEEKS and WEEKS afterwards. I almost quit Lemmy after that:-(. Actually, technically I suppose I did! (I am writing this to you from PieFed after all:-).
I'll try to respond to them until they're just repeated comments. I hate those. Lemmys not that big. If you're too lazy to scroll a small amount before commenting im not going to bother replying to you.
For one, there shouldn't be a requirement for a poster to also constantly reply to all replies. It's cool when it happens, and I do it myself from time to time when I have the energy to do so
All contributions to the Lemmy-verse, no matter how small or how many replies the OP does, are welcome. It's important to attracting more users
For 2, by "select few" I mean as in something that actually contributes to the convo rather than just replying for the sake of replying because that's how you end up with super generic replies that nowadays people wonder if it's an LLM writing it
