They keep electing the two parties, as long as this happens they will be poverty level. Other option is to be money conscious
The voting system (first-past-the-post) + electoral college (DEI for conservatives who are easily manipulated by the upper class) + gerrymandering (REDMAP) make it nearly impossible for a third party to win. See Duverger's law.

Also, it's going to create a deficit that will very likely trigger across the board budget cuts, including Medicare cuts. Likely part of the plan - all they have to do is nothing and "Oh no, the Democrats wouldn't help us cut more vital services and school lunch programs this year so the rules make it so everything gets cut!
