While I don't mean to argue against boycotting, I really don't think it matters in either a practical sense or as a gesture of solidarity whether you play a game you already paid for, especially if it's in single-player. Also remember that corporations own practically everything, and even this banana is probably produced with slave labor or at least terrible conditions. If a thing is easy to give up, great, but you shouldn't make your life less pleasant meaninglessly. Direct your effort and will towards effective actions rather than thoughts and prayers.
Seems like basically every company is covering up crimes that happen on their properties, and lots of those are sex crimes. I have no data, just anecdotally it's been almost every company I've ever worked for and the experience of virtually every woman I've known well enough to talk candidly about this shit. I'm not talking about "nice ass" comments either, I'm talking like, "blow me or you're fired" type shit.
Not an excuse for Ubisoft, but it's kind of like how Covid is now endemic so we're like "oh well". This disease is so common we apparently don't give a shit. There was a brief window of hope with "Me Too" but then reactionaries shut that down.
Most gamers don't specifically follow gaming news or keep up with all the latest scandals (of which there are too many to keep up with in any case), but they will notice if the nostalgia project they've been looking forward to is suddenly gone.
Gamers will unite to thwart cheaters and staunchly have their demands for balance changes met but will turn the other cheek on racism, sexism, ableism, etc.. with the reasoning being "cuz muh free speech", both in-game and on social media platforms.
I don’t really care about any of it anymore. It’s not like I ever pay more than $15 for any Game anymore, And after steams cut and taxes and everything, they barely are getting anything From me. And after I gave my switch to my ex-wife who demanded it, I just started
Downloading Nintendo games because I won’t ever buy a Console twice. besides 90% of anything you buy is from a evil corrupt corporation or They are owned by a corrupt evil umbrella corporation like 90% of food brands are owned by five parent companies like there’s no point In Boycotting because when you buy their competitor, you’re just buying from the parent company anyways.
the thing with microsoft is that they went on a buying spree not too long ago so they own a bunch of studios now
bethesda? activision? blizzard? mojang? double fine? those are all microsoft now.
if you want to boycott microsoft gaming, as is asked by the BDS movement, you must boycott all that they own and publish. that’s not just halo and forza, it’s also the recent oblivion remaster, psychonauts 2, minecraft, the ori games, doom…
I'm mildly amused that you think there are any gamers on lemmy that still use microsoft. Isn't it mandatory to use linux to access the fediverse? ;)
For ubisoft, I have no idea. Everything I seem to read around here indicates most are dissatisfied ever since one of the assassin's creed games a decade ago or something.
i mean, i’ve seen maaaaany posts about oblivion remastered (made by bethesda, who is owned by microsoft)
as for ubisoft, yea, no one likes them, but ive seen very few people say they don’t like them because of the sexual assault cover up. for most people, it’s because of their bad games or their delisting of games (which are very good reasons to hate them, of course, but i still wish people talked more about the SA, it’s still a rampant problem…)
Well, games are all individual people with their own views and opinions. The one thing in common is gaming.
I'm sure plenty of gamers hate Microsoft for plenty of reasons including that, but in those cases their not gamers, they're pro-Palestinians. Just ones that also happen to like games but that isn't relevant to that discussion.
