Australians are increasingly avoiding travel to the US under Donald Trump’s second presidency, fresh data shows, with forecasters expecting tourist numbers to plummet further throughout the year.
Official statistics from the US International Trade Administration reveal the number of visitors from Australia in March 2025 was down by 7% compared with March 2024 – a reduction of 4,559 people.
This is the largest decline since March 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic was disrupting international travel.
I have US citizenship and I don't even feel safe travelling to the US.

I used to visit the US a couple of times a year. Shopping, meals, site seeing. I loved my American neighbours! I’m afraid to cross the border now. And worse? When I see a vehicle here in B.C. with a Washington license plate, my shackles immediately go up. It makes me feel really bad… but there it is :(

It's okay. Many of us understand. It's the nature of the times. It could be worse... our hackles immediately go up when we see our national flag. We are told to stand and salute it every morning as children, and now when we see it in public we are forced to worry whether it belongs to a crazed nationalist with more firearms than brain cells.
