Plenty of basic skill everybody should have though. But i agree , no need to swim like an athlete but at least floating in slightly moving water is very important.
Swimming is definitely something that should be taught as part of schooling. Perhaps you'll never need it, but it is an important skill to have in case of an emergency, whether that's falling into a pool, getting caught in a flood, or saving a small child in a body of water.
