Saltines crackers with whipped cream

Are you from Texas? There was a restaurant chain there back in the day that served a pie very similar that consisted of a crisp whipped cream meringue(?) mixed with crumbled saltines. It was absolutely divine, I found the recipe a few years ago but I failed to make the pie of my rememories.
I am, actually, but I grew up mostly in England, where I first had it. I can't remember who first introduced it to my siblings and I.
How about saltines with butter? My wife introduced me to that white trash treasure.
I don't believe I've tried that combination, but I'd imagine it'll be a bit too rich for me. I assume you at least use unsalted butter?
