THIS IS MONUMENTAL! When did you ever see an actor sitting with a comic book and saying "You see this? We're going to make THIS a movie!"
Hollywood is always writing their own shit, never just taking a GREAT story from the comics and making it a movie. If you read "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" you know what I'm talking about.
I know they'll be little changes here and there, but the fact that this actor is sitting with a comic book in her lap and that's the movie that they're fucking making?
James Gunn seems to genuinely love comic books. There's some very obscure comics references in PeaceMaker, and an loving understanding of different comics vibes comes through with every episode.
James Gunn has done a fantastic job so far, and deserves all the credit he can get. He's showing a very good hand at promoting as well, which is amazing. He's obviously very intelligent and capable, and has made good leadership decisions. The fact that he values the ensemble cast and himself lives a kind of ensemble life is highly valuable in the position he's in.
I'm just so glad that if they're going to start showing the darker side of comics they're doing it with Supergirl, and not with Batman or Constantine or any of the usual suspects.
This is a gritty story, and shouldn't really be funny except accidentally. But DAMN, talk about setting a standard for heroism.
It doesn't come much more heroic than Supergirl in this comic.
