If governments used taxes to better people's lives and not to enrich themselves, their buddies and corporations. If they didn't do means testing for benefits (or better yet scrapped benefits and implimented UBI etc instead) etc then taxes would look a lot more appealing but they either don't care or are intentionally callous.

Even before learning just how unjust the tax system is, I learned of local council tax and how it's mandatory, and particularly disliked that the services offered in return aren't optional. Throughout my life I developed a strong desire to only financially support causes I believe in or services I use, and some of their services do not interest me.
