As a Finn I find it to be a fucking disgrace. Then again, considering it's the guy who during the presidential campaign prioritized connections with American CEOs over diplomats, I am unsurprised.
In November, Canada, Finland and the U.S. administration of former President Joe Biden signed a deal called the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE)to work "together to develop world-class Arctic and polar icebreakers through the exchange of knowledge, information, and resources."
Absolutely makes sense. As much as we wish for the opposite, we are dependent on the US for many years. It's strategically the best thing to do. I do not doubt the Fins disagree with US politics very much, but from their position in these times it is best to tell Trump what a great guy he is.
From Trump‘s (questionable) world view, Finland is not an enemy. They heavily invested in their own military and didn‘t have a negative export balance with the US.
These are the two things he criticizes the most about the biggest countries in the EU.
He also happens to like right wing governments.
