What mundane thing did you say to get banned from reddit?
I've been reading a lot of comments lately about people getting banned for really mundane things. Some as much as upvoting a comment.
My 11 year old reddit account got banned. I still don't know exactly what I said but I believe it was for talking about the US invading Canada and how we Canadians would fight back.
I think the funniest thing was getting banned from r/politics for posting two lines from the lyrics of Kidnap the Sandy Claws - a song from a kids movie Nightmare Before Christmas. A KIDS MOVIE!
"Kidnap the Sandy Claws, throw him in a box. Bury him for ninety years, then see if he talks"
I don't even remember the context of posting it, but it was about Santa Claus. You know, a fictional character.
I disagreed with a Karen publicly. She DM’d me, calling me vile and telling me to never speak to her again. Huh? Why not block me? 7day harassment ban. No context.
Non-reddit karma will catch up with her.
I get that it’s easier for Reddit this way, but…
On a post about a local company not wanting to serve LGBT folks... i said, vote with your wallets. Let the free market decide their fate. Apparently anything short of wanting to burn the place to the ground is considered bigotry.
Someone else posted that they wanted to fire Bezos off in a rocket never to return. I replied that it would be more appropriate to float him down the Amazon. My comment (and only mine) was banned for "inciting violence".
I’ve been permabanned multiple times for fairly innocuous comments. The most egregious was getting banned for typing “whyteboi victimhood.” Mod said I was racist/sexist. I am a white male.
My most recent ban was for threatening violence for typing that I wish I could “stomp out” anti-intellectualism. Such a violent threat from me.
I got a temporary suspension / time out for using the word retard in a scientifically accurate, non-offensive context. In a conversation about dealing with mold, I made a suggestion on how to retard fungal growth. Unbeknownst to me, there had been a very recent site wide rule added about using slurs and apparently it's a slur to retard the growth of mold. When you get a suspension like that, there's no way to appeal it (or at least they obfuscate the ability to do so).
Haven't been banned, but the bastards did make the reddit Boost app useless about a week ago. I switched to RedReader, but I don't like the app as much, so I don't stay on it as long now. Been using Lemmy a lot more.
I am guessing it was the second half.
"You pulled a three year old account of the mothballs to post something that stupid? Your mother should have gone through with her Planned Parenthood appointment."
There was an edgy meme posted by le redditors about something like 'why don't we just kill sadness from inside out' and replied 'yeah with a gun' and I got perma banned for harassment.
Yesterday, CBSNews posted an article about the 60 or so South African refugees boarding a plane to the US. Someone commented something like, "So we're deporting Venezuelan and El Salvadoran refugees, but bringing in SA refugees?" I commented on top of that, "I dunno, something didn't seem white." The post got deleted and I got a 3 day ban for violating rule #1, hate speech (or some shit like that). I one-upped them and uninstalled the reddit app. Good luck in your future endeavors.
