I just created this as a place for everyone that believes in being armed as a last resort to stop federal govt from becoming fascist. For me guns are only meant to defend my family and friends. I think if everyone is armed, govt will think twice before trying to roll us over, a bit like MAD of Nukes, it's a big deterrent.
I did not want the "Liberals" prefix but I do mean "everyone" is welcome here including LGBTQ and minorities.
I would love to get conservative friends come talk to us, provided they are tolerant to minorities, it would be nice for all of us to work together rather than let the oligarchs roll us over by dividing us.
Genuine question from someone who isn't an American...
How far does this shit show have to go before you act on it?
See, I figure you keep guns to stop tyrants, but how much of a tyrant? Like, one that threatens to invade sovereign countries? One that makes thousands jobless, or seeks to disenfranchise whole sections of the population? What about one that is trying to shift the federal reserve into a cryptocurrency that they can openly defraud? Maybe one who renegs upon the deals the US has made with the world?
Really, I'm just asking if those guns do anything other than give you something to hold whilst you watch it happen.
The threshold for violence has to be a lot bigger than them laying of 100s of thousands of people.
IMO, for political activism peaceful protesting is the best method as proven by MLK, Gandhi, etc. We lost the election because 40% did not vote, Trump won with only 32% vote. Harris also had 31% votes.
For me guns are mostly for defense not offense. It is to protect my family and friends.
Most important aspect of guns are deterrence. Imagine 50 millions people have guns, now the army/cops will think twice before harassing the citizens because they are all armed.
Yeah, the army has heavy weapons and drones as such, but those are useless when you are dealing with 50 millions people spread over a million sq mile.
The lay offs were just a small part of the many examples I gave.
However, what does that represent if not a dismantling of the state apparatus? It is quite literally a move towards fascism.
As I responded to the other comment where you say that... You are presuming the 50 millions are all on the same side in that scenario, when the rest of the world sees the US as incredibly divided. There are many more people that, democratically at least, supported a fascist leaning president than didn't.
If a violent uprising does happen... You won't be being shot at by the army or cops. It will be the guy that lives down the street.
It's a pretty hard question to answer when there isn't someone actually pointing a gun at you. This takeover/infiltration of our nation is happening in a "nonviolent" way thus far and through the guise of "democracy" so it's hard to feel justified in taking up arms at this point, though it certainly is something on many peoples' minds. How far is too far? It's really hard to tell and this all still feels surreal to a lot of people.
We are still a democracy. We still have the legal process.
For me guns are mostly for defense not offense. It is to protect my family and friends. Frankly my hope is I will never have to fine upon another human being.

Well, be aware that lemmy in general is pretty leftist, and liberal in the American sense isn't the same as when used in the context of global politics.
You specified the second amendment, so there isn't likely to be too much hassle over that, but it's something to be aware of when the socialists and anarchists scroll by.
Also, there are similar communities out there, so you might want to check those out and join in the conversations about the U.S. situation as it comes up.
There are conservatives on lemmy, and most of them do remain civil when interacting with people that aren't, though it isn't by any means a guarantee.
There's communities like !armedworkers@lemmy.ml as well that cover some of the same ground, but probably wouldn't align well with your overall outlook. Tends to run a little further left.
Iirc, !guns@lemmy.world is fairly friendly to everyone, so I would think you'd at least enjoy checking it out.
If you substitute sh.itjuts.works, lemm.ee, and midwest.social for lemmy.world in the above link, they have gun focused communities too, with naming varying degrees of activity.
!resist@fedia.io is a solid hub for general resistance to oligarchy and fascism.
There's others out there, I know, but those are the ones I've find t to be most likely to be friendly to a US liberal that's also a firearms advocate of some stripe.
Myself, I'm further left than that, and a bit more radical in my views regarding what resistance should end up being, but that's tangential and only brought up as a means of letting you know that even folks not fully aligned with your political views can still be open and friendly.
Will definitely check out some of these other communities as well. With "liberalgunowners" being a very active community on reddit and a lot of people jumping ship this week, hopefully they'll be attracted here by the identical community name
Yeah, if they go lemmy, they'll likely find a much warmer welcome than on reddit.
As long as the other sub, 2aliberals (iirc) stays away lol. That sub got comprised by right wingers on the mod team, and went to crap fast, not long being before the '23 api debacle.
Came here to make a liberalgunowners community and am glad to see someone else had the same idea! All three of my reddit accounts simultaneously got permabanned today and have been periodically getting temp banned over the past month after going 10 years without ever getting banned on reddit. Reddit is cooked if you ask me. Deleted the app and happy to find community here now instead. Let's see some feet pics... i mean gun pics!
I think Reddit will be take over by the oligarchs very soon.
Their goal is to control 100% of narrative just like how it is in Russia, NK, China etc. Their goal is to stop liberals from communicating on social media.
