Educational value

My wife's work computer desktop background changed itself today, and she called me in to see it. I said, "that's a Saw Whet." Not believing me, she looked up the credits and said, "get out! It is!"

I owe it all to !superbowl. I couldn't have identified even a Snowy before this community.

Nice ID! I'm glad to hear the things here make an impression. You are now the owl expert of your household! With owl power comes owl responsibility.
- After the past two OOTY contests, I would be hard pressed to not recognize it. Although, there are several other little owls that bear a resemblance, so I might get caught out on a mis-ID of a less popular look-alike. The Elf Owl is pretty similar; its darker face might give it away.
  Did the Elf face off against the Saw Whet in either of the past two OOTY contests?
  
  In 2023, Elf beat Powerful, but then lost to Burrowing. Saw Whet beat Ural, but lost to White Faced Scops.
  In 2024, Elf lost to Long Ear, while Saw Whet beat Barred, Buffy, Great Horned, and White Faced Scops in a very impressive road to victory.

- My wife said I should provide the attribution; to MS's credit (and rarely do I give MS credit for anything) they made finding the background attribution easy.
  However, I didn't only because I wasn't so much submitting the photo itself, but the photo of the desktop as illustration about the story. I could have posted my story without the photo and it would still have communicated what I wanted. I suppose the distinction is in what the topic of the post was - the photo, or the story? For me, it was the story.
  If I'd been submitting the photo for the photo's sake, I'd have included the attribution. I probably should have, anyway.
  Thanks for linking to the original, so folks can see it in all its glory, and see who the artist is.
