Tajik Groom Sues Bride For 'Not Being A Virgin,' Casting Spotlight On Local Customs.
A Tajik man is suing his new wife for not being a virgin, an accusation the woman vehemently denies. The dispute has put the spotlight on the local tradition in Central Asia where premarital sex is deemed unacceptable.

DUSHANBE -- Suhrob spent years working on construction sites in Russia to save money for his dream wedding back in Tajikistan.
But just weeks after a lavish ceremony in his home village on the outskirts of Dushanbe, Suhrob, 30, took his 22-year-old bride to court, claiming she wasn't a virgin when they married and demanding that she reimburse the 50,000 somoni ($5,000) he spent for the wedding and dowry.
The bride and her family denied the accusation and countersued Suhrob for defamation, winning $1,000 in compensation for moral damages, according to documents obtained by RFE/RL from the Rudaki district court.
Suhrob has appealed the ruling.
The fact that we're in the age of tech overlords and in some places people and "medical professionals" STILL don't know the basics of female anatomy is fcking baffling.

It's somewhat common for a really aggressive cough to break a hymen. It's not a strong membrane whatsoever. Hymens actually open up when you're horny so it's not even a given that having sex would break it. And like you said, you can be born with a broken hymen or no hymen at all.
