Worth noting that the tariff threat worked. Columbia is now allowing the deportation flights and the tariff threat has been lifted.

- Why is this propaganda piece being repeated all over Lemmy? It's an opinion piece praising Trump and pushing his strong man narrative, it doesn't contain actual news. Colombia demanded a humane treatment of their citizens. That was always the core of the scuffle. They never refused to welcome their own citizens in their own country. No country would do that.
  The tariff threats did nothing. If you read Petro's statements it's clear what and why Colombia did the things it did in this matter. And none of them were out of fear of tariffs or being bullied by Trump. The military planes did return to the US and Petro sent the presidential airplane to get those people. If anything Colombia diplomatically humiliated Trump by forcing him to treat Colombian citizens as regular people and not criminals.
  I have now seen two or three accounts having this exact same wording and narrative repeated on a couple of posts about this here on lemmy. They repeat either word for word the same conversation or use similar phrasing.
  
  Reality seems to counter what you're saying, from the article linked above, first two paragraphs even:
  "The US will not go ahead with tariffs on Colombia, after Bogota agreed to accept - without restrictions - deported migrants, the White House says.
  Donald Trump had ordered 25% tariffs on all Colombian goods after its president barred two US military deportation flights from landing in the country on Sunday."
- I changed the headline because he announced tariffs, not that he enacted them. I chose that word very carefully but a lot of people didn't seem to notice.
  Also very weird that people are accusing you of sympathizing with the administration when you're the one that created this group to keep track of his insanity.

  I see it like this, Trump's mind is 100% fickle. He could come back with a 50% tariff tomorrow if somebody in Colombia is mean to him.

Colombia didn’t refuse to take their citizens back. They objected to their inhumane treatment and being delivered on military aircraft. The American media has become a pro-Nazi propaganda machine.
- They objected to it, then immediately turned around and agreed to accept the flights without restriction.
  
  Uhhhhhh what? No, Colombian demands were met. The deportations are flowing again because the US agreed to put the individuals on private chartered flights, after being fed, clothed, and properly vetted for deportation. All on the US dime. So the process before Trump took office. Sounds like normal ass diplomacy to me. US said we want to deport Colombian citizens illegally. Colombia said no, go through the internationally agreed on process, and the US said okay.

- You underestimate the right's ability to scapegoat brown people for their failings. Fox news will throw out some wool that Colombia is somehow at fault and they will pull it over their own eyes.
- OT: I'm so frustrated that in my local Costco there's no single English tea, but they have entire aisle just for coffee.

So... I hate Trump and I hate that America is sending deportees in restraints, but this article explicitly started that the tariffs were averted.
The headline and summary are misleading.
