How do I modify a community created by another user?

I am signed in as an admin user of my instance. A different, non-admin user has created a community on my instance. I can't edit this community's details. If I create a post in this community, I can't use the ... menu to assign myself moderator of this community.

What do I need to do to give myself access to edit this community?

  • Why would you even want to be doing this?

    • I’m the owner and admin of the instance, and sometimes there are tidying/housekeeping tasks I need to do with user-created communities.

      • I know, but I’m just trying to understand why you wouldn’t allow people on your instance to handle their own shit. What is the tidying/house keeping of someone else’s community? As an admin you can already delete/purge every post everywhere. I could remove/purge this post right now.

  • As a workaround, I was able to sign in as a second admin user, go to a post/comment I made in the community, and assign myself moderator through the ... menu.
