I've done that same thing with a similar sort of instance, and mods banned the community and the moderator from their instance.

Edit: in case you missed it and was curious what it was... it was about 6 or 7 posts all from that same guy over the span of about a year, all of which were long winded rants complaining about "ageism" and concluding that the age of consent should be lowered to 14.
I looked at some of the posts. One had an admin commenting on it, so I don't think they care.

There's a sincere argument that turning "Pedo Hunting" into a consumer spectacle has done nothing to deter the act of child sex trafficking and exploitation, but been fantastic for the NextDoor community of busybodies and concern-trolls. The #MeToo movement has flatlined. I don't see any real efforts to provide financial aid or social assistance to kids targeted for sex work. But lots of local news sites seem obsessed with elevating allegations of sex between kids to the front pages.
Reminds me of the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, wherein 12,000 unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse were reported and investigated by prosecutors leaning into the national media trend and looking to make headlines. Right now, we've got a flood of Trans-Panic and Gay-Panic news articles that try and conflate kids going through hormone therapy with psycho-leftist parents doing mass grooming.
Doesn't look like this guy gives a shit about LGBTQ civil rights. But those that do are chronically aware of how simply being queer can get you tossed in the same category as creeps and predators.
I also remember hearing somewhere that the show tainted so many cases with bad practices and horrible evidence gathering techniques that they couldn't get convictions once the proper authorities were involved.
Yeah, there have been some cases of "pedo hunters" here; turned out to be a flimsy cover story for violent nazis.
It's, uh, not a topic suited for thoughtless entertainment.

Anyway. I'll focus on the claims made by the user, instead of assuming if he is or isn't a paedophile.
What people like that mod, or Richard Stallman, don't get, is:
- consent is impaired if one person has power over another
- the age gap gives you power
Beyond that all that talk about desire is a big red herring because attraction is shit inside your head, what matters is what you do.

Yeah. His opinions about software freedom are fairly solid, but when it comes to children and sexuality, he'd do everyone a favour if he simply shut up.
In his defence, though, I don't think that he's a paedophile; I think that he's just trying to extend his views about individual freedom into sexuality, but he's too socially clueless to get it right. And then the whole thing blew out of proportion because of both witch hunters and people exploiting it for political opposition.
Sex with minors? With an age gap bigger than like 2 years, no. But close in age is fine, like 17 and 18.

It's amazing how easily he stretched a 20 year to 15 year age gap to Matt Gaetz, who is like 40 years old.
Yikes this is not good, this person probably should not be a mod of this community, or any community really. Sticking up for pedophilia is a really bad thing to do and also probably could get the instance in legal trouble. This is way past power tripping in my opinion, it could be a legal issue for the instance.
lemmy.cafe's admins should probably look into this and possibly kick out this mod, since it could possibly cause them some big issues later if he dos anything like this in the future.

A paedophile is a person who's sexually attracted to children before they hit puberty, so they lose interest in them around 10 or 11 years old. That weird (ex-)mod and all of you in here are talking about Ephebophilia, the primary sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19.
(I'm not arguing in favor of any of this!)in the modern vernacular, it’s all pedophilia under a certain age… most scientific terms in common usage are used differently that the original definition…
basically nobody but ephebophiles are going to care about the distinction…
