Gamers desert Intel in droves, as Steam share plummets from 81% to 55.6% in just five years
Valveβs latest Steam Hardware Survey is out, and it makes bleak reading for Intel. Following the underwhelming launch of Intelβs Arrow Lake Core Ultra CPUs, which generally showed gaming performance actually decreasing compared to its previous Raptor Lake CPUs, gamers are seemingly voting with their wallets and buying AMD chips instead. According to Valveβs new December 2025 survey, 55.58% of Steam users who took part in the latest survey use an Intel CPU, while AMDβs share has gone up to 44.42%. Cast your minds back to the same time five years ago, and Intelβs share sat at a commanding 81%, while AMDβs 19% looked positively piddly. Head over to Amazon, look at the CPU best sellers, and you wonβt see a single Intel CPU in the top 10. ποΈοΈπ€

PC gaming has a pricing problem, and the memory crisis is compounding it in a way that's utterly heartbreaking for our hobby
"I'd like to buy a gaming PC, but I looked at the prices recently andβ¦"You get the idea. We exist in a space where an "affordable" gaming PC usually costs the best part of $1,000, and that's before you get to the monitor, the keyboard, and all the rest of it. Budget by PC gaming standards, sure. That's budget DDR5, for mainstream graphics card money. If the budget-conscious, entry-level roots of PC gaming are cut short, the whole tree looks in serious danger of, if not toppling over, at the very least withering in the sun. ποΈοΈπ€

Amiga filesystems arenβt compatible with modern computers. 'amifuse' is a new FUSE driver for macOS & Linux that mounts Amiga PFS3 disk images natively, using an m68k emulator. Read-only by default, with experimental read-write support.

Console Review: Steam Deck LCD 256 GB
But there is a console that I've been searching for good deals on: Steam Deck. When Steam Deck was released, I hadn't requested it as a Christmas gift mainly because it'll be way too expensive to import to Slovakia. Same with Steam Deck. I was surprised that Team Fortress 2 is actually playable on controller and some tasks, like grenade jumping are actually easier on Steam Deck than on my desktop. Steam Deck comes preinstalled with SteamOS, which in its first iterations was a Debian distribution, but the fine folks at Valve soon realised that Debian is not feasible for their consoles. ποΈοΈπ€

Halloween Harry (E110)
We like to pick spooky games for October, as we feel it fits with the Halloween season and everything. We wouldn't say Halloween Harry (1993, developed by Interactive Binary Illusions and SubZero Software, published by Apogee) is a particularly scary game. But more than anything it has "halloween" in the name, and that's all we need to be convinced to put this on the roster! The first two guests are both from Australia, which is apt, because that's where Halloween Harry was developed, by John Passfield and his team. More on that in the next episode, in which we get to talk to John Passfield and his business partner Pete Mullins. ποΈοΈπ€

Nintendo Runs Out Of Replacement Parts For 2DS Systems And New 3DS LL, Ends Repairs In Japan
This includes repairs for "Nintendo 2DS systems" and the New Nintendo 3DS LL (known as the XL model here in the West) - mentioning how it's now officially run out of parts necessary to repair these systems in Japan. Here's the full updated notice (via machine translation):Nintendo: "As we have run out of parts necessary for repairs, we have stopped accepting repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS LL and Nintendo 2DS systems. Please note that repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS system have already ended on August 28, 2024. Nintendo also announced it had run out of replacement parts for the Wii U in Japan last July, and ended online play for both the 3DS and Wii U in the same year. Repair services for these systems haven't been available for some time now in many other parts of the world. ποΈοΈπ€
