Not op but I got perma banned for fighting with people who were defending massive pedophile Dr disrespect. They were arguing that "it was legal that means it's okay". I pointed out that the US is fucked and certain states have consent laws at 16. Legally he could fuck a 16 year old. However that doesn't change the fact that he's a pedophile scumbag regardless of legality.
It’s just your POV. I’d say that pedophile refers to children, and I don’t consider a 16yo person to be a child. Some can be mature enough, although it might be rare and should be handled case by case, instead of making a stupid generalization.
Jesus Christ. No they cannot. She isn't mature for her age, your just a pedophile making excuses to justify your attraction. That makes you a predator. Ew
Sure. You know better than everyone. Congrats. Doesn't have to be a "her" btw...
Funny that I got called a pedophile as well when I was a minor. Fun times. Being with someone way older isn't always bound to end badly, provided the adult isn't a bad person (which isn't easy in the world we live in) and that both understand the risks and adopt the right posture.
I also know other people who have been in a similar situation. Sometimes it went okay, sometimes not.
This is like the defining case of "just because it's legal doesn't make it okay." An 18 year old and a 16 year old is one thing. It's very different when it's a 30-something year old and a 16 year old. That's like a high school senior trying to get with a 12 year old.
There's a massive power imbalance in a relationship like that where the 30-something has basically total control. Even a 30-something with a college kid has issues imo, let alone a kid who's a sophomore or junior in high school. That's some Quamire from Family Guy shit. "I love high school girls. I get older, they stay the same age."
Half your age plus seven is the rule of thumb that I've heard. At 18, that means the lowest you should be dating is 16. At 32, it's 23. Etc.
Also, echo chambers are good, actually, and you can't change my mind. Life isn't supposed to be a constant argument, and the criticism of surrounding yourself with people who generally agree with you is a tactic that's been used to prevent people from simply cutting toxicity out on social media platforms.
Plus there are some things unworthy of argument. The existence of trans people, not an argument. Fucking a 16 year old as a grown adult is fucked up, not an argument. Holders of these anti-truths are just bad people covering their own failings

I’ll not agree and say it depends on the two people. It might also not be a relationship and just a one time sex thing, or other. But I’ll agree that it doesn’t sound good in general, but it’s pretty common and doesn’t always end badly.

I know this rule and I find it too restrictive at specific ages, and generalizing something that can’t be only related to age. It all depends on the personality and maturity of the 2.
My take: being attracted to minors when 23+ isn’t fine and pretty disgusting (when the main goal is sex or similar), but if the people talk a lot and learn about each other, then falling in love isn’t so disgusting and is understandable, although the adult should really pay attention to how they behave and should avoid any hierarchy
I got banned for commenting on a video of something like "guy loses it in van and runs down protestors" my comment was pointing out that they were running into the way of an already (slow) moving van and then leaping dramatically to the ground. It was like a grade school production of a Chinese insurance scam en masse.
Well the sentence that initially got me a three day ban was "Hitler did nothing wrong" which I'm aware doesn't look good on paper but it was a quote and not my own words. According to Reddit the decision was automated so I appealed what I thought was an honest mistake and that's when they probably saw my recent posts promoting Lemmy and talking about Palestine and decided to ban me permanently. That or they didn't like that I filed an appeal. I haven't used Reddit nearly as much since getting on Lemmy anyway so this is more funny than annoying but still a weird way to go.
It's next to impossible to go back anyways, people are getting banned eventually. I've been seeing reports of people's 5+years acc getting shadow banned for very little reason it doesn't make sense. A comment removal, low karma, cqs scores, age is enough to trigger a full site wide shadowban. I've been hearing also temp bans turned into permanent almost as fast the temp ban ends
I bet they're focusing on the old.r users, they've been wanting to get rid of that for awhile. If they shadowban you and leave on your own randomly, there won't be another mass exodus. That's conjecture though.
Anecdotally that fits my experience. I've refused to use new Reddit at every turn (save the app where you have no choice), and I got permabanned yesterday despite no real escalation in my rhetoric. I've always spoken my mind, and let fascists and conservatives know exactly how low I think of them, and until about a month ago none of it had copped me even a temporary ban.
I feel you. ‚But my Account is 8years old and I ha e so much comment karma‘… can’t buy shit with reddit Karma and you basically work to make fucking spez more Money. Just delete the Account and Never come back, it’s a shithole anyway and you just want to hold on to old old.reddit
I did not communicate that well. I didn't mean "just left" as in recently, I meant I left out of the blue 100%. When I'm done with something, I'm done. Did the same with lemmy .world. I don't log in and I don't look at any of the old places. Randomly, I get info from a search, but that's it.
Not OP but I got banned on reddit atleast 4 times. Zero bans on Lemmy though.
All for supposed harassment usually after having a disagreement in certain subreddits. Honestly could be anything their report system seems easy to abuse
Now, I don't tend to have those on Lemmy nearly as much, but when the pedophile I was disagreeing with reported me here the mods were chill to hear my side after issuing me a warning.
For both the more chill atmosphere and the better mods I like more here.
On bans I did mean sitewide as I know atleast veganhomecooks banned me (no clue why though I never interacted there. Just lurked). Fully understandable to think I meant communities with how I phrased it though lol.
Again though, I'd love to know how to check for bans. I'm very curious
Sounds like you got crossbanned, basically certain subs will look at which subs a user visits and it autobans you, for example joe roegan sub is a common to get crossbanned from several subs if you ever commented on it. The sub itself makes fun of jrogan rather than support him
The 30rock community on dubvee’s instance made it into my “all” feed once and I tried to comment. That’s when I learned. I was super offended lol. I started by searching my name in their mod logs. Turns out I had been banned there for like 9 months. For something I said on some com that wasn’t even on their instance. Then they have some kind of scripts (?) that sync the com bans and automatically turn them into instance bans. It’s crazy. The amount of effort that went into their automated ban infrastructure and ban culture is … impressive?
