Looks like two versions of logos slapped over each other. Production error, I'd guess.
Thats exactly what it is, but it wasn't an error so much as bad judgment by everyone involved. This was the intended result.
MLB has been putting out absolute dog shit hats recently. I assume New Era fired all their competent designers figuring that middle management could do it for a few months before "AI" could do all the design work for them.
