  • Found some (I presume) a few male 'Superb fairy-wren' tail feathers when weeding before:

Lots a fluff around so something went down (probably resident magpie having a go at it). Apparently a common bird but I never really see them (or found their feathers).

    • Thatโ€™s much cooler than finding split peas on your car seat.

    • I saw this guy at Werribee Zoo a couple of years ago. One of my favourite birds, they always seem cheerful.

    • Might be rainbow lorikeets.

    • There's a small colony of them in the central Agora of the Bundoora campus of Latrobe Uni. They live in the azalea bushes. When I worked in Heidelberg Heights, I'd go to the Agora and just sit there with a coffee until they appeared. Beautiful.

    • these are from cockatiels, not sure which ones, but they are far too big for fairy wrens

      • Hrmm I'm not sure if cockatiels hang out on coastal fringes very often but you never know!

    • I found a stick of cinnamon while weeding today. Probably from making chilli oil.

    • The only time I've seen a male Superb Fairy-Wren was at the 1000 Steps, when I was a teen. Also saw a wallaby there too, it's a magical place.

Their feathers are so beautiful - how big are the tail feathers in the pic?

      • Tiny about 5cm. When you turn them around in the sun they change colour to a more aqua / green which was interesting.
