I watched all of that and I still don't get it
That had a blink and you miss it scene of the wave motion gun.
The Yamoto ran it's engine energy directly to the gun. Here is a longer scene from the original TV show:
In the episode "Best of Both Worlds" it's suggested to route power directly from the core to the deflector dish and use it as a weapon against the Borg. The gag is that instead of using the internal systems to channel power, they just strap the core's output to the dish.

I know the episode by heart, but I don’t understand what is strapped to the deflector, or what it has to do with the Yamato.
They photoshopped the bow of the Yamato on top of the deflector dish,
