Does it? The IDs have one, but the passports are also still booklets, aren't they? But then if you stay within the Schengen area, the ID is enough anyways. I even been to the UK once with just my ID. Before Brexit ofc.
I never said it had to be an app or a card in your phone’s wallet, although it’s not a bad idea. Passports have chips now. I just think it doesn’t need to be a booklet anymore.
It's probably more to do with being compliant with other countries' systems. The US has passport cards, but they only work with Canada and Mexico. I'm sure that has to do with some agreement we made with them.
The Lumia series are still my favorite phones ever. I just wish they had baked in Android support. Fun fact, they had fully functioning versions with Android play store in testing, and it worked very well. Then Microsoft decided not to pursue it, or couldn't negotiate a contract with Google.
