I'd have preferred something closer to TNG or DS9 in tone. They don't need to make Star Trek into a comedy series.

Let's not discount Worf, who clearly attended the Leslie Nielson School of Dry Humor.
I just realized how awesome it would be to hear Nelson reading Worf’s lines in his place.

If it's a Lower Decks continuation then having a similar tone to Orville season 2 and 3 could split the difference.
But the only other way they know how to make it anymore is laughing stock. So a comedy is preferable.
If you want TNG, wait for Orville season 4.
