Christian is releasing the final update for Apollo, allowing users to opt out of the refunds
  • I think that given how forthcoming Christian's been with this entire situation, if he were in a position where he could not feasibly put up that 250k it would be communicated. It's no small amount of money, sure, but I think he'll be alright. I can't speak for anyone else, but if I was someone with an Apollo sub, I would refuse the refund without even thinking about it. Hopefully a large percentage of subscribed users agree with that sentiment, and in that case the cost should drop substantially.

  • YouTube --> PeerTube Next?
  • Reddit has 500 million MAU, and this is a conservative estimate. Youtube on the other hand, is sitting comfortably at 4x this number, 2 billion MAU.

    Considering that, and the nature of the platform, I'm pretty certain they are too big to fail.

  • Privacy friendly bank account/payment method
  • monero. shielded zcash is also an option.

  • I love how thoughtful everything feels on lemmy
  • I think the difference is that each of us are contributing to a network instead of shouting into a void. Arguably, we are still shouting into a void, it just doesn't have the chatmovingsofastnoonewillseeimgay effect yet. There's an actual opportunity for engagement and discussion here though, for sure.
