Per the other response, it's kind of an over-reaction to the term to the point that it's been equated with the British "spaz", where it's offensive because it tends to refer to someone with mental disabilities. It's entering the euphemism treadmill

It's also worth noting that FFXIV is practically single-player if you want it to be. Any group content can be played with random match-ups using the party finder. It's got a great story, too
