  • If there's any real debate to be had, it's along the lines of male hormones and penises. Should either be present in a place which essentially only exists for the purpose of keeping those things out?

They are. Every sporting governing body I'm aware of requires trans women to be on hormone therapy for a minimum of 2 years before they can compete in the women's category. This is completely in line with the medical community's research into how long it takes before the benefits of being biologically male are counteracted by the hormone replacement.

The debate has been had in the medical community and has been resolved. Now random people who never gave a fuck about women's sports before think they should have input when they have no qualifications, just because they have prejudices.

  • I'm so glad WFH has stuck with my company thus far, especially after weeks like this one where we were buried in snow. As of this week, I've officially spent 50% of my tenure in my role as WFH. That seems crazy to me, that I've been at this company so long and that COVID lockdowns started 4 years ago.

  • Oh fun. $330k for a 500sqft shack that is partially collapsed. The only info on the listing states the lot will need to be scraped, so basically that is the cost of an empty lot.

Going out a bit further, you can find a couple of houses around $350k that are liveable. They are 700-900 sqft and 0-2 bedrooms.

  • It's just lovely when a c-level exec makes delivery promises to a customer without consulting with the development team. Now we have to somehow complete a very complex feature across multiple teams in 1 month.

At least I'm that much closer to RE with today's ridiculous market gains.

  • A while back I applied with the USPS and got called in for an interview. It wasn't a real interview, but more of a presentation on all the required next steps to be hired (there were at least 20 of us in the room). I ended up getting a different job before my start date, but if you were able to do all the steps by the deadline the job was yours.

  • Nice! I'm still waiting on a couple of forms from my spouse before they will be completed. Getting married has really messed up our numbers. The first year we owed somewhere around $5000. The last couple of years we got back that amount instead. I miss the days of filing single and getting within a couple hundred dollars of the right number.

  • In this week's edition of celebrating random milestones:

It took me roughly 10 months to earn last years gross salary in portfolio gains. Glad to see my portfolio earns more than I do, especially since it doesn't have to pay taxes on that income.

  • I just update my house value once a year with a close approximation to what Zillow says is the value. So if Zillow shows my house is estimated at $515000, then I will input that it's $500000 in my spreadsheet for this year.

It may go up or down throughout the year, but since I have no plans to sell I don't really care about the noise.

  • Wow. That sounds like terrible management. If you don't know what your employees are doing for an entire year, you are failing at your job as a manager.

Glad to hear you got out.

  • In other good news this week:

After maximizing the anticipation with incremental gains this week, I finally crossed the $500k mark in invested funds!

Here's to hoping the market can hang on until the end of the month, so I can memorialize this milestone in my spreadsheet.

  • I wonder if finding a good tax advisor runs into the same problem as finding a financial advisor - in order to know if they are worth the money, you have to know enough that just doing it yourself would make more sense.

While I've never used one, my sibling was given very bad information by her new husband's tax advisor when they were doing taxes last year.
