In principle yes, of course, but I think we all can be reasonably suspicious that Rubio is using this exact justification as a smoke screen to lay the groundwork of sowing doubt to manufacture a false "controversy" come election time. He's also being just vague enough that he can play both sides, too, depending on which option he finds most politically beneficial. I'm glad to have people scrutinize our electoral process, but not when they start from a predetermined conclusion. Which I know I'm also doing by assuming Rubio's intent, but it's not like we haven't been here before.

Yes, it has a local webui by default. You don't have to connect it to their cloud, though I do because it's free and lets me get notifications if something goes offline.

Netdata for me, it reports stats and metrics for VMs and containers too, automatically, and it's easy to install in Proxmox.

My gripe with NC has always been that keeping it up to date is a pain, I love the actual functionality. I'm in the process of migrating my install from a normal install in a TrueNAS Core jail to the containerized version in the Linux version of TrueNAS and that too is a struggle. I'm hoping that the containerized version will be easier to keep up to date, as that seemed to go wrong constantly.

I tried to make Grocy work as a kitchen inventory and shopping tool too but damn, it tries to do way too much detail. I'm sure there are people with enough discipline that it appeals to, but I really felt like it was way too particular and entering/tracking items across areas/brands/types seemed like overkill. Its whole system seems unintuitive to me and I never could get to the point where it seemed natural, so I gave up quickly despite really wanting it to work.

I used both, I ended up settling on searxng because Whoogle seemed to be unable to retain my settings. Might be something with my cookie configuration, but searxng has no problem remembering my preferences. If that is not a problem for you then they are comparable; Whoogle is pretty simple to get going and works well, searxng is slightly more complicated to set up (but not that much with docker) but has a ton more features.

I've been using Debian as my main server OS for a long time, but yeah I've started using Alpine for lightweight hosts for a single app/docker lately. Especially on proxmox with the pve-helper-scripts you can spin up an Alpine container or VM with Docker in a few seconds.

However, lawyers for the families are in fact trying to have his assets placed in a trust or have the bankruptcy case cancelled outright because of his spending. By design it's a slow, complicated process where Jones has lots of legal (and illegal) avenues to delay paying. Fortunately Jones is so stupid and outlandish that he's likely hurting his own case so I wouldn't be surprised if a judge slaps him with more severe sanctions.

I use pfsense's HAProxy integration and a combination of Cloudflare or Lets Encrypt certificates for external stuff. For internal-only stuff I have a root CA I distributed to my computers that I use to sign certificates. My docker box that serves most of my internal stuff has an nginx-proxy-manager container with a wildcard certificate so that I don't have to sign one for every new subdomain on my docker host, and the various containers with services in it talk to it over a private docker network. Buying a cheap domain and managing it through Cloudflare simplifies a ton of stuff.

High availability storage is what the Ceph integration is for.

Edit: though it's kind of a pain to set up and probably way overkill. A separate TrueNAS or similar appliance with a 10 gig uplink will be easier and probably just as reliable for your use.

Sublime Merge is what I use at work and is the only Git GUI I've had good luck with. It's not free but well worth the 50 bucks, or you can use it with the nag screen indefinitely like Sublime Text.

This is not a good idea unless you really know what you're doing. High capacity batteries and high power circuits are pretty dangerous and there's a surprising amount of complexity to build a reliable UPS. You'd probably have better luck modding an existing UPS (say from a flea market) to use a bigger battery if you are really desperate to save every dollar.

Plus making it yourself you probably won't save any money unless you already have all of the tools required, which is pretty extensive if you wanna do things right/safely.

I personally dislike the Plex apps, but yeah its native support is unmatched. The official Jellyfin app for Android gets the job done but isn't native. However, Findroid seems like the future to me on Android and I use the Kodi plugin on my TV (which is amazing).

Yeah setting up a reverse proxy can be confusing, I still struggle with it sometimes. You can get away without it, but when you have your basic setup working then it's great to have.

Other people have said lots of useful things so I wanna just add on: nginx proxy manager is really useful for this. It's a webui that automates reverse proxying with Nginx (so that you can host multiple pages on the same machine/port) and also centralizes managing SSL certificates, including automatically obtaining them from Let's Encrypt.

Related question for those of you running Proxmox... how do you back up the Proxmox host itself? Last time I looked into it the recommended solution was basically manually copy a few folders in /etc or do a full disk backup but that's pretty unsatisfying. Currently I can easily restore any VMs that fail from backup with a few clicks, but if the SATADOM I installed Proxmox onto failed it'd be kind of fiddly to reconstitute and restore all the other settings/networking/etc.
