I dunno why you say FreeCAD is bad. When I got my 3d printer I picked it because I knew fusion would rug pull eventually, and fusion doesn't run on Linux without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

It takes a bit to learn, just like any app. But it's just as powerful. I really like the spreadsheet usage in FreeCAD to keep all my dimensions in one place.

Because rebase is fraught with peril, if you also push rebased branches upstream and someone else works off that branch.

If you stick to the rule of only using rebase on local branches that have never been pushed upstream, it's an awesome tool. If you don't, you're eventually going to cause someone to have a bad day.

I think it's very much a "you get what you pay for" thing. Cheap Dells are cheap. The XPS line is not cheap. I've had two XPS 13s now, and the build quality is top notch. And easy to open up and work on.

It feels like I have the best success downloading the universal apks from apk mirror, installing them, patching the installed apk, and installing the patched apk as root. And when I upgrade to the next version, uninstalling the app first, and repeating the above steps with the new version.

Yeah, Google has stopped developing the aosp apps that we consider core phone os functionality (dialer, contacts, etc). Because usually when aosp is forked and distributed, those apps are supplied by the distribution and unused.

It sucks and it puts more effort on the rom devs. But tbh we're many years into this, I'd prefer Google focus on the core os efforts and let the distributions take care of the app bits of the OS. Not totally unlike how linux focuses on the kernel only, and the apps that make up an os as we see it (browser, file manager, etc) are handled by others focused on building those bits (ie KDE, gnome, etc).

I've been getting the universal apk from apk mirror since using revanced. If I use the non root method of install (after selecting the apk from storage) it just exits. But if I install the universal apk first, then use the root method to install after patching the installed apk, it works.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Watching them blush and be awkward was super cute and now I just want them to figure it out. She's a catch Rutherford, go for it!

Flatpack isn't without its own quirks and flaws. There is no One True Way. Being open-source, there shouldn't be one.

True, but didn't Starshield happen after this stuff? I guess I need to relook at the timeline. But as I remember things, he started tossing starlink access at Ukraine, tried to get DoD to pay, they chose not to. Then he started to these games, and after that DoD started paying up. Starshield was announced a little bit after that.

Not what you wish to hear, but for web browsing, use Firefox. The Android version still supports plugin like uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger. Ad blockers are effectively dead in Chrome with the advent of manifest v3.

Firefox accounts work very much like your Google account in chrome, so it was relatively straightforward to migrate. Just install firefox on your desktop, get your Mozilla account set up, and use the desktop tools to migrate from chrome to firefox. Then once it's good on your desktop, install firefox on your android devices and sign in to your Mozilla account, everything should sync.

Passwords I'd recommend not using any browser solution and instead use something like bitwarden.

Breaking the Google chains are tedious but doable!

That's fair that it's likely a specific hardware issue. But I find it interesting that the folks that wrote that blurb in the Arch wiki were so general about it. They make it sound like it's a general problem more than a specific hardware combo problem.

Maybe the author of that blurb just made it sound moreover general than it really is.
