Photo collage app reccomendations
  • Same here. Diptic is wonderful.

  • On goes the modding... Last page now holds a pencil and a ruler.
  • That looks great and such a clever idea with the loop!

As for the ruler, maybe you could make a cutout from a piece of cardboard of the same thickness that the ruler fits into so that the page is flat for writing?

  • This could be me. I first really fell in love in my thirties. Before that I had book boyfriends. Characters who I related to because of how they were written.

I didn’t know what aromantic/asexual was at the time, but they both fit me. I’m now married to a man who is my best friend and who accepts me as I am.

And being aro/ace doesn’t mean that I don’t have feelings. I do. I just have no idea whatsoever on how to express them and still feel like me, I guess?

  • Xfce appreciation post

There is a place for graphically gorgeous distro’s, but when it comes to ease and speed, Xfce is just the best for me.

I started using Xfce when Xubuntu first came out and I switched to Linux Mint Xfce when that started. I did try other distro’s when others recommended them, but always switched back to Xfce.

I have an old Eeepc that runs so smoothly on the latest Mint Xfce despite being a senior in computer years.

And that’s why it was about time I gushed about Xfce on here 😀

And as this post sorely misses classic romcom:

    • I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her
    • Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.

  • Came here to answer PTerry too. I cherish his books (going to re-read them all again soon). I love the way he gave the fantasy genre an unadulterated joy. His books are the only ones that can make me cry with laughter, even on trains where I try to behave 😀 Also, he’s the only author who made me want to read footnotes 😂

The world got a little darker when he died.

  • [How is your day going?] 20th of August
  • I'm having a quiet recovery day instead of a day at a barbecue with family. I hate that this latest bug is soooo difficult to get rid of.

  • Returning to Xfce 4.18 after years of Gnome 3/4
  • Xfce is just amazing. I’ve used it for many years, starting with Xubuntu I think and it’s my go to Linux version. So minimal and functional.

  • People who keep journals or diaries, do you hand write or type?
  • I’m a pen to paper gal, but also keep a Daylio journal as a health tracker.

  • what are some great YouTube channels worth checking out?
  • Vlogbrothers has been a favourite for many years. They do so much good! And do lots of silly stuff too, like making a series of videos with titles taken from smash mouth’s rockstar 😀

  • Is there a business in your town, which you are 100% sure is a front?
  • There is a thrift store in town with a carpet store attached, which is giant but 1/4th full. When we walked in the owner looked surprised we came to look at the thrift section. It was crap, and looked all untouched for a long long time

  • What is an item below 100 bucks that everyone should own?
  • I could never carry an A5 around. I have both an a5 watercolour and sketchbook on my desk, but for on the go I use an A6 sketchbook if I want to sit longer for sketching as it’s a hardcover, but usually my notebook is my go-to.

And I’ve had a similar convo with myself about writing things down, but if I don’t, I get overwhelmed and forget. And yes, I do remember the important stuff I write down, but I think it’s a good thing, because it stays in the forefront of my mind until I check it off 😀

  • What is an item below 100 bucks that everyone should own?
  • Yeah you can. But a notebook is just always there and doesn’t need a chord to charge.

All kidding aside: if you have ADD tendencies, your phone often distracts you before you can write down that thought or that idea. This is why I always have a notebook with me.

    And, also, there’s science https://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/dec/16/cognitive-benefits-handwriting-decline-typing

  • What ad blocker do you use on your iPhone?
  • Seconding AdGuard . It’s really working well for me.

  • How was your journey to picking up a good habit like reading from being an ADHD kid who scrolls all day?
  • Create a reading space, no tech allowed. Then every time you want to go read (could set alarms for that), you set everything aside, go to your space and read.

  • What is a good hobby for a depressed person?
  • Making food, either baking or cooking. They focus you on the here and now and you eat well to boot.

A hobby that has helped me a lot is knitting. It’s simple to learn and it’s another truly mindful thing to do for you.

  • where do you guys register and manage www domains?
  • I’ve been on namecheap for a long time. They have a sale going on now. But they are really good, hardly ever a problem and if there is, their customer service is stellar.

  • What is an item below 100 bucks that everyone should own?
  • A notebook (with a good pen)

  • Anyone got any tips for knocking a migraine when medicine doesn’t seem to be enough?
  • Most welcome! If you need any help, just ask. I make my own rollers a lot so I can help with any question.

  • You can only drink one drink for the rest of your life, but it cannot be water. What do you pick?
  • Exactly! I do love my fruit juices etc but my teeth would be dead in a month or so. With teas you don’t have that problem 😀

What are your decluttering plans for August?

It's nearly August so I thought I would put up a post!

I'm still working on my July plans, waylaid by my health issues, but I want to make plans for August to keep the momentum going.

What are your plans for August?

I will post mine in the comments.

    on quality

When I grew up, I wore home made clothes created with the best natural fabrics my parents had available.

Then I grew up and almost exclusively bought new clothes. The thing is, most of them barely lasted a season.

After many years of discarding clothes, I went back to my childhood ways, buying clothes made with organic cotton, wool or linen. Spending a little more on clothes that now stay with me for years, not a season.

I do keep out of season clothes separate from my wardrobe so every season it feels like I have new clothes I’ve just bought.

Lately my quest for quality branched out to my office supplies. I only buy what I know will last me, so no throwaway pens and crappy paper notebooks.

In my major office declutter, I let go of so many crappy notebooks and pens. It made my heart ache to see all that bad paper and plastic go to the thrift store, knowing that most might end up in recycling.

In what area can you focus on more quality vs stuff that starts to break down when you buy it?

my decluttering to do list for this week
    1. Get all the already decluttered stuff out of the house.
    2. Clear my desk (aka how does it get so messy in the first place)
    3. add art supplies to shelf
    4. Sort/declutter last bookshelf I need to go through
    5. File admin stuff and do the tasks

I also need to make it an evening routine to clear my desk before I leave my office, but that’s not something I will be able to do in a week

My husband put several Monstera Adansonii stem cuttings in a box on some perlite and they are growing so fast! Our home will be full of monkey mask plants soon 😊

Where will you declutter this month?

I intend to work in my office/home library. I started to declutter there last month, but it needs some more work. Well. A lot of work.

I may post a to do list for this next week :)
