Exactly. Because they're not prepared to do what's actually necessary - reform the filibuster to allow it to be removed. Democrats have all these high-minded plans, but they all require a margin in the Senate they will never reasonably achieve. And even if by some miracle they did get 60 seats in the Senate, there will always be a rotating villain to throw a wrench in the works. Mamdani won not just because he had plans, but because he had very specific plans. He could tell people exactly how he intended to pass those plans. Democrats don't actually have a plan for repealing Citizens United. They just have vague notions about repealing Citizens United.

Democrats were recently caught having a fund raising scheme so corrupt that it should be a capital offense to run such a thing. Those spammy text messages we were getting asking for donations? Turns out 98% of the money donated to those went straight into the pockets of consultants. The party's primary reason for existence is not to advance policy goals, but to steal money from liberal donors.

Exactly. But we still have weasels even on here defending their genocide-loving asses. The Democratic party needs to be purged or burned to the ground. We're in a two party system. And the Democratic party is currently the biggest barrier to progress in the country. It is fundamentally beyond reformation. Only by burning it to ashes will leave space for an actual left wing party to rise.

That doesn't really change anything. Even the sports issue is unscientific irrational bigotry. It comes from a complete ignorance of how trans healthcare actually works, and brain-dead assumptions that trans women have bodies anything like those of cis men.

And again, it is not simply that there are some pedophiles in the Republican party. Pedophilia is baked into the entire platform and ethos of the Republican party. It IS a pedophile party. And Rowling likely does have some pedophilic tendencies. She's literally obsessed with the genitals of children. Whether she's personally diddled a kid, I don't know. Maybe she's resisted her urges. But she demonstrates clear pedophilic tendencies. It is not normal to be obsessed with the genitals of children.

No shit. We're used to having to be our own doctors. Most trans people who medically transition have to educate their own doctors. Hell, even well-meaning medical staff often have very dangerous and ill-informed ideas about how trans bodies actually work.

For example, there are some medications that require different dosing between sexes. But many medical providers, like the general public, are morons. They latch onto the phrase "biological sex," as defined by chromosomes. They think that it's fundamentally not possible to change a person's sex, and that trans medical treatments are just cosmetic.

This attitude can kill patients. With the exception of issues with reproductive organs, most of the sex differences in medical treatments or reactions to medical treatments are due to hormones, not chromosomes. HRT changes you body at a fundamental, cellular level. It's very common for trans people to experience for example changes in alcohol tolerance after a period on HRT. Trans women tend to experience decreased alcohol tolerance, while trans men tend to experience an increase in alcohol tolerance. Think about what kind of deep biological changes must be occurring on a cellular level for that to occur. And it's not just alcohol that is affected. HRT changes the metabolism of many medications. If you are a doctor prescribing medications that have sex differences in the prescription rules, by default you should prescribe based on hormonal sex, not chromosomes.

But what portion of the general public actually knows that? What portion of doctors actually know that? At least with a human doctor I can talk to them and actually show them the medical studies that show profound differences in medication metabolism that are induced by trans HRT. But you fundamentally cannot convince an LLM of anything. It's trained how it's trained. You can't provide it new evidence and ask it to change its mind. It's just going to keep doing what it's doing. At best it will apologize, tell you it will consider your request, and then proceed to make the exact same mistake again.

Trans people view AI negatively because it's likely to get us killed. It's trained on the lowest common denominator. And trans folks often have go to great lengths to find the few doctors that have two brain cells to rub together when it comes to trans healthcare. As the general standard for medical care for trans people is so poor, any automated system that is simply the averaging of the state of medical care is going to produce a tool that is profoundly detrimental to the health of trans patients.

Exactly. Imagine you're taking a class. Imagine your note taking process is:

1. Record an audio copy of the lecture.
2. Feed the audio into an LLM to transcribe it.
3. Have the LLM condense the transcription into notes.

What good have you actually accomplished? The point of studying is not to produce a derivative work of a professor's lecture. The point is to actually learn something. And this is best done by working through the material, on your own, using your own mind and faculties. It is the act of actually doing the transformation that builds the rich conceptual networks that result in effective learning.

Exactly. Some universities end their spring terms in early May. Some in early June. K12 schools tend to more consistently end their years in early June, but that's still spread out over a few weeks.

The technology itself is great though. Imagine having an AI that you can easily train at home on 100s of different academic papers, and then run specific analyses or find patterns that would be too big for humans to see at first.

Imagine is the key word. I've actually tried to use LLMs to perform literature analyses in my field, and they're total crap. They produce something that sounds true to someone not familiar with a field. But if you actually have some expert knowledge in a field, the LLM just completely falls apart. Imagine is all you can do, because LLMs cannot perform basic literature review and project planning, let alone find patterns in papers that human scientists can't. The emperor has no clothes.

Eh. I'm not the better person on this. I have no problem treating bigots the way they treat others. I'm a trans person, and I have to live with a constant parade of politicians and influencers calling me and my people pedophiles simply for existing. Sorry, turnabout is fair play. And really, the GOP really is the party of pedophilia. Their entire worldview is pro child fucking. From their encouragement of child marriage, to their complete rejection of the rights of children, to the general belief of "Father knows best." Their ideal world is one where girls are married off to older powerful men by the time they are 14 years old. It is not a coincidence that so many GOP politicians are arrested for crimes against children. It's their whole worldview.

I'm not going to start accusing random parents of being child fuckers if they simply have a few questions when their kid comes out. But if you are a politician or influencer, who makes attacking trans people a core part of your brand? Someone really needs to look at your hard drive. You're probably a pedophile.

Elections still matter. And you're arguing to make is harder for Democrats to win the House. Ultimately this is because you don't want Democrats to win the House.
