Nope. I use it on a weekly basis to pay for stuff on the internet. It's got its uses and the concept is sound. What you're talking about is the hype train that happens ever so often.
Please no. I don't like big ISPs, but neither do I want big tech to feel entitled to control the network infrastructure somehow more than they already do.
Well, since we own the instances and every user, even if a remote user, is also user of every instance they interact with, we should be able to run some analysis tools and weed out the bots and astroturfers.
99% of fedi instances should require sign-ups with applications and email. It does not make sense to let in users indiscriminately unless you have a 24h staff in charge of moderation.
Ask your instance admin to restart the instance. It's a known bug.
I've set our instance to restart every 4 hours since it takes about 20 seconds to do a restart and is way better than having a stale timeline. That said, SIJW has thousands of users while we only have 200. We can get by restarting, maybe with more users there will be more of a negative impact even if it's only for 20 seconds every 4 hours.
And also recommended, to find previously undiscovered communities when your instance gives you a 404 and fetch them for the first time: https://reddthat.com/post/69331
You will need greasemonkey for firefox or tampermonkey for chrome. Plug those scripts in and they'll do the work for you by rewriting the urls.
I have set a cronjob on my instance to restart Lemmy via docker_compose every 4 hours. It cause a small 30s downtime every 4 hours, but should be preferable to having the timelines stale.
Lemmy.ml is overloaded and known for having this issue. Also, even if it says "pending" you might already be subscribed. I just saw this in my subscribed feed even though my subscription to this sub is still pending.
I would love to. Unfortunately I have these images saved already and don't have a way to know the exact page of the sauce.
