Lost my Streamlight Stylus Pro on a SAR call, replacement advice?
  • Jerv is right about how awesome the TS10 is (I have four). Buuuuut I don’t think it’s what I’d choose for a SAR focused light. You should still probably get one just to play with it though: it’s a cheap introduction to Anduril, the emitters are fantastic, and it’s capable of (temporarily) putting out a shocking amount of light for how small it is. 3000K is gorgeous but all of the temp options are pretty great, honestly.

If you’re looking for something rugged, you can’t really go wrong with Zebralight. The SC64 is about the smallest 18650 light out there (don’t get that one though, see below)—it’s efficient, it’s rugged, it’s easy to use. You can customize the output levels as well (a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get it it’s easy). It’s not insanely bright like a lot of modern lights can be, but it’s plenty bright for most applications. If you had any interest, wait until the SC65c HI is available—the new 719a emitter should have better qualities than the LH351D in the SC64 series.

If you could go even bigger, then there’s the SC600 series with 50.3 HI. There’s some tint lottery, so quite a few people end up with some green in the beam, but it can get considerably brighter than the SC64. Bigger though, more expensive, and the pocket clip isn’t as good.

If you want to stick to a smaller light since you’ve been using a 2xAAA model, then consider the Skilhunt M150. It’s a 14500 that also accepts regular AA batteries, gets quite bright for its size, has onboard magnetic charging (for lithium ion cells only), and is generally seen as one of the favorite 14500 lights around here.

You might also consider some right-angle headlamps. Zebralight, Skilhunt, and Armytek all make well-respected headlamps for hands free light that can also be used hand-held or clipped to something like backpack straps.

It’s a bunch of info. Check out Zak’s arbitrary list of popular lights to see lots of other options, see what might interest you, and ask more questions!

  • Copper TS10, 3000k, orange aux with mandatory mod
  • Very nice! I always just live with low aux on the TS10 and no aux on lockout to avoid the high drain. Not as pretty but it works well enough.

Any tips for getting the bezel off easily? I would like to to lego mine together for an Al/Cu look.

  • I want to say that most would agree with how you ended up doing the poll, but this is clearly a pretty polarizing issue for the entirety of Reddit. I do hope that most members of the community can at least give you the benefit of the doubt considering the time and effort you’ve put into keeping the sub a beneficial and helpful place.

At any rate, we’re only looking at a few more days and then another round of voting and it sounds like you’ve figured out how to run a better poll next time. I know I appreciate you and Zeroair—and now you and Adair, looks like—for working to keep up with a place to discuss and learn about the hobby.

  • May get buried in this little bit older post, but I did see this discussion going on over at r/modcoord.

    https://reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/149apf9/campaigns_have_notched_slightly_lower_impression/

Seems to imply that even smaller subs being closed could be generating a noticeable impact on Reddit’s long-term advertising. Would suggest that these strikes will have an impact if they go on longer. I’m unsure honestly, trying to listen with an open mind but this at least seems like an actual attempt at looking at the situation as opposed to anyone saying ‘this is dumb, won’t do anything so there’s no point.’

That said, I’m still sympathetic to those who say they want the sub back. I do too! Locking out my favorite place on Reddit has been very obnoxious—but I voted to keep it closed and re-vote again with more info on Monday.

  • TS10 Copper now available!
  • Appreciate that as well, also saw the mention of the 20% off coupon. Nice!

Of course, for some reason I cannot close the popup advertising said discount on Wurkkos’ site—but whatever, works ok on my phone. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Zebralight clips - the saga continues! (LynchNW Stubby)

    Spyderco Stubby Clip

Not sure if this has come up over on the sub before, but LynchNW recently released yet another Spyderco clip—the stubby. I’m completely happy with the MXG style, but this is probably the perfect one for those 53s for those of you into the classic Spyderco look!

    TS10 Copper now available!
  • Good looking out, I’ve been waiting for this one!

Do we think Wurkkos will ever actually make one of these with true RGB aux? And if so will it even be in the fancy metals, or just in an aluminum model?

Probably not worth it to wait. May have to pull the trigger on a red aux and call it a day.

  • Appreciate it. I just got Mlem from TestFlight, will check it out in a bit. One of the most recent patch notes seems to imply that they hope they fixed the issue of accounts being deleted between logins, so I might hold off for juuuust a little bit.

  • I have now been on Lemmy for approximately 90 seconds! Layout feels an awful lot like Reddit, seems like it’ll be relatively easy to navigate. Are there apps that work well here, or is web-based the best way to go? I thought about downloading the Mastodon app and trying to access this community from there, but I honestly don’t have a solid understanding of the entire decentralized Fediverse thing.

Either way, thanks for creating a backup community Zak!
