Looking at our metrics, there's a chance things are starting to improve now. It's too early to know for sure, though.

Yeah...I've been assuming they'll do a separate post for consoles closer to the date, but who knows with the new management?

I'm not really interested in casting blame - the Fediverse is complicated, and can be affected by any number of things.

All I can say is that we haven't been able to find an issue on our end, and at the same time, federation doesn't seem completely broken - just about 10 days slow, and only in the one direction.

I just want to provide a brief update on this.

It's still happening. As near as we can tell, there's nothing we can do on our end. Federation from .world is just ~1.5 weeks behind, but it's still happening.

School boards are also very vulnerable to this kind of coordinated attack:

If you want continuous music streaming (that is, it's not on-demand, and you'll listen to whatever's playing), Stingray Music (formerly Galaxie) gets the job done.

I also use CBC Listen, primarily to stream their radio stations, but they've got loads of podcasts and music playlists as well.

Were there any local laws that require the contract to be awarded to the cheaper/better provider, even if there are local companies?

Governments are always pressured to take the lowest bid, regardless of whether that bid is realistic, and regardless of how often it blows up in their faces.

Yeah the Defiant crew size seems to be ~50, per DS9.

However, on a three-shift rotation, only around 16 or 17 should be on duty at any given moment - the rest would be asleep or doing whatever passes for recreation on a ship that size. So yeah, 14-16 on-duty crew at any given moment actually seems about right.

I've heard Tawny Newsome talk about this show on a podcast, and in this particular case, it's the opposite - Paramount+ wanted a live-action comedy, Kurtzman wasn't sure it would work, and Newsome had to talk him into it.

That said, the industry as a whole has been in a state of contraction, and the big Paramount merger is imminent, so who the hell knows what will happen?

From a structural standpoint, it seems like a good way to have a rotating cast of guest stars while still having an ongoing mystery for the leads to explore.

Deadline is an industry news site, so the comments tend to be filled by people from the industry (or at least claiming to be).

It's real hard to interpret all the corporate jargon, but...I think in the near term, nothing's likely to change. The guy was already overseeing drama, including Star Trek, and is continuing in that role. The new bit seems to be "emphasis on franchise building and leveraging and identifying new and existing IP across broadcast, streaming and other emerging media," which is...vague, but obviously could have implications for Trek. Maybe they'll lean into alternative projects like the Khan podcast series, or that Picard audiobook they did a while back.

And maybe it could involve coordinating with the film division for the next theatrical movie?
