  • I've heard of Qobuz from a friend but haven't used it. Having it not fit into my current system at home had made me reluctant to try switching to it.

I think I'm going to have to figure out a new system though because not being able to block Nazi music from auto playing on YT Music is a straw I can't just let pass. Not to mention the other commentor talking about YouTube's slop problem.

I feel like we've all been cursed by every time a character has said, "May you live in interesting times." in any show or movie.

  • Actually had another issue with YouTube Music.

While listening to a Mix, YT's version of a radio, it kept putting Kanye West music into the mix. Now I like a lot of Kanye's old music but I'm not going to listen to it now since he's a fucking Nazi piece of shit. I don't want his fuckass getting my fraction of a fraction of a penny. Fuck Nazis...not like that.

There is also no way to completely block an artist. So I have to be every vigilant.

I also have to vigilant about at least once other artist, while listening to an awesome, trancy mix last year I stumbled across a song that was hypnotic and said something like, "To have a good party you need to do Marijuana." Weird but not upsetting, I can enjoy the vibe. Then it swings around to, "To have a good time you need to do Heroin...heroin...heroin...heroin..."

I dunno who makes this shit but it's definitely not my vibe and I want to be able to block shit that cruises in from left field to ruin my vibe. YouTube Music had no way to do this and I'm not sure what I want to do about it next.

  • I ran into a bunch of AI slop on Tidal. It kept being on artist pages that I really enjoy. For example Against Me! is one of my favorite bands but some AI sloptist named their slop band Against Me. Tidal has no way to separate these two names and everything shows up on one page. To make things worse there's no way to report this except by emailing to the artist being ripped off and hoping they see your email.

I found it so frequently, roughly 6 or 7 times in 3 months, that I cancelled and moved on to the next service, YouTube Music. It's not necessarily better or worse in my experience but they can differentiate between Against Me! and Against Me and I have yet to discover a fake song since I switched about 3 months ago.

I'm not sure about the support I'm giving to Google, I kind of fucking hate it, but I have very very few complaints about the service. My main complaint is there is no dedicated TV app, it goes through the default YouTube app and that is significantly worse at finding playlists or surfacing new music.

I just couldn't do Tidal any longer with the slopfest. And I left Spotify behind when news broke they were showing ICE ads. I'll be honest I've not heard that YouTube is showing ICE ads but it would not surprise me.

  • Feels like it was about 10 years ago when Republicans started calling anyone with a sense of empathy special snowflakes.

It was kind of like, "Oh you don't think I should say the n word? Well you're just a special snowflake!" Seems pretty revealing.

  • Yeah dog, is not just our government... Well, I guess this is because of the lack of a government for the people. But yeah for more than a few years shopping for groceries has become where do you personally get the lowest prices. I get different discounts from my partner.

We now shop at a store that doesn't play this type of game but many people live in an area that only contains stores like this.

  • No need for an invite. Creators need to be invited to join the platform. So not just anyone can post their content there. A thing missing from Nebula is gaming content, like gameplays, etc., but it's a curated list of creators that put out generally quality stuff.

I paid for the lifetime subscription assuming it's been around for like 3 years, I reckon it'll be around 3 more and I don't want to deal with another monthly sub. I really like Jet Lag, I find it just the right amount of neurodivergent fun and competitive and chill. I also watch channels like Wendover, Not Just Bikes, and Real Life Lore. They are all on Nebula and I assume my sub is somehow divided up equitably, although I haven't looked into it. I also hope some of the money I paid goes to people who I haven't heard of or watched yet but I might like to watch in the future.

Is it better than YouTube...no. But it doesn't have to be, it is serving a different use case. I know when I open Nebula that I'll find something worth watching with no slop and a lot less money going to multinational corporations. They still have servers that need hosting so some money has to go to corporations but I'm not paying a trillion dollar company directly which feels nice.

  • It's probably a hill that gets muddy. Everyone walks in the same spot because they've been flattened out like stairs and you slip less. It does happen naturally over time and many feet.

  • I make noodles with red sauce fairly frequently. I just get a big, 28oz, can of whole peeled tomatoes, no Calcium Bicarbonate because that makes the tomatoes taste like crap. I dunno the whole can of tomatoes in a pot on the stove with some basil and let it reduce for 30 minutes to an hour.

If I'm feeling fancy I put a minced onion or shallot with some butter in before the tomatoes.

Anyway, salt to taste, add a little of this or that for umami... Boil some noods and bam it's done. Top noods with sauce and it's a fine dish. Add some cheese if you feel kinky.

Tomato, Basil, salt. What a dream.

  • Spin is actually adding words like "admits" to a headline in order to lead the reader to a certain belief. In this case the .ml headline leads us to believe this information has been concealed. When a much more reasonable take is that you, me, and the average reader is probably coming across this info for the first time. It's not been hidden, it's new.

Seems like the take from .ml should be, "You fools, rise up! Your government is getting your countrymen killed in a bullshit war, AGAIN!"

But this headline spins it to read as, "This bullshit war is getting people killed but the government is hiding it, wake up sheeple!"

The first is a cry to come together the second serves to divide us small people.

  • Nah dog this is just bad spin. You scape goat me because I choose to speak up but it sure sounds to me like you're living in your own little bubble. Personally I don't know how many people have been killed on either side, I've just assumed it's more than either side wants to admit because losing anyone is always more than the powers that be want to admit.

Reuters being about 2-3 days behind the conflict feels pretty normal. But like call it what you will. Maybe it is a global propaganda apparatus... But more likely it's just people being careful and slowing down transmission speed so they can confirm what information they are passing along. Buy you know, you do you.

  • What a bad title, it's not even the one used on the website. It's not like Reuters has been hiding this shit. The US Gov is the one who would have to "admit" anything except they've already publicly said that some troops will for and that's a loss they are excited to make.

Fucking .ml spin. You know you don't have to try to make the US seem bad right? We do it ourselves just fine.

  • We paid NBC for coverage two years ago and found out that while they steam all day coverage you can't replay that coverage. I wanted to wake up, watch a stream that started 5-6 hours earlier and spend all day watching Olympics coverage, rinse and repeat. Instead I could only jump into the stream and rewind 3 hours max, so I immediately lost 2 hours. Then it was a mad rush to catch up to live because the minute coverage ends for the day the stream is removed and deleted with no easy to finish it let alone restart it.

Literally the worst experience. Surely there is a better system out there, especially since I'm willing to pay, but in the meantime a VPN and CBC's coverage is okay. Maybe next Olympics I'll have the energy to find a real solution.
