#AppImage ist die bessere Wahl aber schwerer die Vertrauenswürdigkeit der Quelle und die Quelle selbst zu finden.
Auch das aktuell halten ist etwas Handarbeit.

Bei mir unter Tumbleweed laufen die updates auch per 'zypper dup'. Programme installiere ich aber mit Discover. Prio steht aber auf openSUSE repo. Nur wenn Programm dort nicht vorhanden wird flatpack installiert.

Ja, aber bei #openSUSE ist aktuell Discover gut integriert. Und die Kombination default + packman + flatpack ist aktuell besser als z.B. via opi unbekannt supportete tepositories einzubinden. Läuft bei mir hier seit Diskover devault in kde unter Tumbleweed ist stabiel.

Snap sollte man auf dem Desktop meiden, da es insbesondere auf alter oder leistungsschwacher HW zu Problemen führt.
