Same as you, I also haven't fully dipped my toes to the world of self-hosting (yet).
- For non-animation movies/series, I wade through the popular/trending categories or read recommendation from friends, lemmy or, god forbid, reddit. I don't really need to do this lately as my shows backlog is as long as my games backlog.
- For convenience always. 720p is fine for me.
- I stream. Unless it is one of my favorites I want to keep.
- Real-debrid+Stremio.
- Stremio does it for me. Also for anime, I have Anilist.
If this is about your post in !woodworking@lemmy.ca, I can see it just fine by checking the post history from your profile. I'm using Voyager.
It's like how there are mass shooters and then there are sane people with guns. You don't remember the name of the latter because they are the vast majority and comparatively boring than the former.
Applicable to everyone really, especially those that want to sell you something that sounds too good to be true.
True for English shows, I had substantially harder time finding non-English shows.
Hi, thank you very much! Sorry I'm using my alt account because it seems like lemdro.id's instance is acting up.
I've check the key I got in my DM for Strange Horticulture but it said that it can't be redeemed from my country (Indonesia). Not sure why, considering the game is not blocked in my country. Is it possible the key can only be redeemed in certain countries?
Not OP but I often get 50% off promo for any beverage from Starbucks app.
Thanks! Exactly what I'm looking for :D
Thanks, I stand corrected. I can search for "all" in Voyager but I missed it. Either I missed it or the feature has been improved. It has been awhile since the last time I use the search feature. I'm a happy camper now.
Yeah, reddit's search feature is worse than Lemmy but using Google Search operators really help finding random discussions which is much better.
Thanks!
First, I'm sorry if this is not the right place to discuss this.
I've been using both desktop browser (Firefox) and Voyager to lurk around Lemmy and try to reduce my Reddit use. Though most of the time, I went back to Reddit to search simple things such as:
- "Best FOSS productivity Android app 2024"
- "Linux distro NVIDIA"
- "Recommended e-book reader beginner"
- "Good quality air fryer"
- etc
The point is, I like to check someone personal opinion and list of recommendations first when I want to make a decision to use/buy certain things.
I know for tech related questions, there are lemmy posts somewhere talking about them, but it's hard to find these posts because the search feature separate searching for posts and comments content when I believe both are equally important in subject/topic/discussion-oriented platform.
With Reddit, I can use the google trick ("site:reddit.com bla bla") to help me find what I need, but it's not that straight forward with Lemmy, considering there are many instances.
For example, someone might make a post asking for "affordable SSD", the comments might write "affordable" as "cheap", "bang for bucks", or "inexpensive". Search feature for both posts and comments will improve the chance of people finding relevant information.
Is there any way to do this? So then I can rely less on Reddit to find recommendations?
For me it's more like:
- Tell other people about all these cool FOSS so people can enjoy them and ditch Big Tech stuff
- Don't tell other people about all these cool FOSS because they might get too popular and Big Tech might notice and do whatever they can to remove competition by any means necessary.
Yeah, but who is Satan's uncle?
Hi, One Piece fan here. Yes, it's really long and really intimidating to start. I haven't watch most of the anime too, and never recomment others to watch it. I'm solely reading the manga (and live action).
I suggest waiting for the netflix anime readaptation that's in production now. Logically, it should have better pace and much less filler than the first anime. It's gonna be way easier to pick up than the first anime with its thousand episodes.
Maybe we have vastly different experience and takes on the loud minority of vegans.
Just like anything that can define people, there are bad apples. You probably see "those vegans" all the time. They might be arrogant or might not fact-check some of their claims, doesn't mean they're wrong on the overall message. They might have some cult mentality, but I see it as a flaw of individuals. They'll still be obnoxious with whatever label they want to shove to others face, vegan or not.
From there, you have the option to just be vegan and not flaunting how morally superior you are or berate someone else for their lifestyle publicly. It's just a descriptor of your choice in what you don't consume (animal products), not some kind of monolith. The vegans who just calmly eating their vegan food without making a fuss flew under your radar.
Considering you said that the biggest deterrents are vegans, I assume you agree with the main points of veganism. IMO, it is a different matter than Christianity because most religion wholly depends on the faith of its followers that their god is the real one, the belief in the absence of strong evidence. The researches of the pro and cons surrounding veganism are still infantile and there are undeniable drawback from going full vegan. But so far, many compelling research say that reducing red meat consumption is good for the environment, which is in dire condition. So veganism is still a moral choice to make, especially if you also think killing animals are immoral.
Disclaimer: I'm not a vegan.
Same, for me it's a "what if there's a nifty gameplay tips or worldbuilding lore that I might miss which would make me unable to fully appreciate the game if I skip the tutorial?" kind of thing.
I've done and tinkered with many things in 2023 like most of us here (migrated to lemmy, degoogle, unsubscribed to streaming services, linux, etc). Some things that are less known that I think worth to mention are:
- Using shift+right click to open the full context menu in Windows 11
- Finally set an Address bar shortcut for searching reddit content with Google. No more typing "site:reddit.com..."
- Anilist with TachiyomiJ2K(mobile)+Taiga(desktop)+Mal-Sync(browser extension) for maximum anime/manga tracking automation!
- My only shame in 2023: Creating a Facebook account (anonymous account) for the messenger and local hobby groups. All I can say is Facebook seemed to intentionally obfuscate its setting/option menus because they're all scattered in different pages and just a plain mess. f u zuck
How's grayjay compared to revanced?
