  • I worked in a shop for four years and only one time did I see see someone stealing food I thought they were going to eat an old lady stole a loaf of bread and I let her take it. The other 99.99% of the time it was have and junkies stealing high value items like steaks, etc, so they could sell them on, or they were stealing alcohol.

  • Looks amazing. My brother does loads of this stuff and I keep meaning to give it a go myself. How long does it take? I tried to make some pretzels about a month ago and they didn’t taste right.

  • I don’t use Mint so I can’t talk too much about the software choices. Transmission is a simpler more user friendly torrent client. It used to be the go-to client on Mac, maybe it still is. I find it a bit too simple so I use qBitTorrent as well.

You’ve moved to a completely new ecosystem. There’s lots of software out there and most of it’s free so give it all a go. I know in Windows when you install something and then remove it they always seem to leave traces around. Linux is much better at cleaning up so there’s no real reason not to install something you want to try.

  • I expect we’re eventually going to start seeing AI in more sensible places and these NPUs will prove useful. Hopefully soon the bubble will burst and we’ll stop seeing it crammed in everywhere, then it’ll start being used where it actually improves a product rather than wherever an LLM will fit.

  • I honestly don’t know why you guys love shitting on AI so much. I flew into Munich, where I’d never been before, and had to hurry to a pub in the middle of town. ChatGPT managed to tell me exactly what train to go for, how to get to the platform in the airport, and even what the signs that I should be following looked like. It was literally like having local knowledge.

  • I don’t see why people hate Spotify so much. I used to go out and pay £10 for an album decades ago, multiple times a month sometimes. Now I can basically listen to anything for the price of an album a month. Plus, you can play Spotify on just about any device, even all the open source solutions that Netflix blocked like 15 years ago. On top of that it’s Swedish rather than American.

  • Im genuinely curious as to what themes and DE you’re using that looks better. In Windows everything is slick and polished, stuff slides and bounces around, the colours are consistent and work together, it’s all pretty elegant. I’m using KDE right now and all that I get is the start menu thing changes shade when I hover the mouse over it. I also use Gnome and XFCE, Gnome is pretty good and XFCE is obviously really basic.

  • They’re very good but there are cheaper alternatives. I watched a video where a guy did a teardown and he was remarking that a lot of the tech wasn’t particularly unique but it was exceptionally well made. We had a vacuum cleaner and it lasted 10 years without missing a beat but it certainly became less effective.

  • “A sharing bucket including six Greggs sausage rolls and a large tub of KFC gravy will be available for £10 on Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16 through Uber Eats in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.”

They’re also giving them out for free on one day in each of those places. Now I remember why I loved living in London.
