Fairphone teaser about upcoming launch event on August 30, 2023
  • If they add wireless charging I'm sold. I'm willing to give up a lot of other stuff but I really want an SD card slot and wireless charging.

  • Microsoft to Force Web Links Shared in Teams to Open with Microsoft Edge
  • I find this mildly infuriating, so I think it fits here.

  • Tiny mini PC with four 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports
  • Dang, I was actually interested until I saw the possible non standard USBc port instead of a flipping barrel jack. Give me PD or give me a barrel jack.

  • What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?
  • I failed a handful of times before I made it through. It's really about keeping am eye on your numbers in the top bar. If any of them aren't looking right pause the game and find out why.

Just a heads up there are some bugs still and you'll need to hit some things with a hammer.

  • What games have you played in the last 365 days that stand out to you as the most memorable experiences?
  • I can't hype The Outer Wilds enough. It's such a fun exploration game that evolves into a big mystery.

I also just finished Ixion for the second time. It's a city builder but with stress. I enjoyed it a lot because it scratched my particular brain itch, but I can see it not being for everyone though. IXION soundtrack is a banger though.

  • What new OS* have you tried this year?
  • I finally got fed up with Windows 11 when an update broke itself during an update. Apparently it was a pretty widespread issue. Defender got disabled because the update renamed several files.

I moved to PopOS and have been happy ever since. I couldn't believe that almost everything on my Lenovo Flex 5 just worked, including the touchscreen, pen, and 360 degree hinge. The only thing that doesn't work is the finger print sensor apparently due to lack of available drivers.

I really like how modern PopOS feels.

  • Thanks. It's just weird. I have tons of old friends on Steam that have been offline for years.... I have no idea what happened to them or what's going on in their lives... But this one guy I know for sure and it just hits hard. Part of me wishes I didn't know.

  • Not to be morbid, but I found out a friend/former co-worker of mine passed away via Steam. He had been offline for a super long time and one day I saw his account pop up as in game. I decided to say hi, only to find out it was his son. The son told me that my friend has passed about a year prior and he had taken over his father's account.

It was such a shock I had to sit and contemplate it for a while. I still don't quite believe it to this day.

  • What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?
  • So back in the day you could hold home to pull up Google assistant and tell it to translate whatever was on your screen. No matter what app, browser, etc it just worked. I have no idea why they ever got rid of it. Now with the modern version of tap to translate text has to be highlight-able in order to be translated, which is a bone headed decision. It's like they never use the stuff they make.

  • Microsoft to force migrate Windows 11 Mail & Calendar app to Outlook PWA
  • And I decided to force my laptop to migrate to PopOS and I haven't looked back.

  • Are there any sites similar to what Massdrop used to be?
  • They do but it's very limited in their "interests." They used to have a much more broad selection of hobbies.

  • Are there any sites similar to what Massdrop used to be?
  • I got so much stuff from Massdrop!
Belts, speakers, knives, my first ultrawide monitor, backpacks, outdoor gear.
I found brands and stuff I really like from there and it was just a great resource.

  • Are there any sites similar to what Massdrop used to be?

I really miss what Massdrop used to be. It was a cool mix of stuff. I'm looking for a site to discover cool stuff for niche interests.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

edit: To clarify, I'm primarily just looking for a way to discover cool stuff for hobbits not necessarily the group buy mechanic.

YSK how to close a folding or pocket knife with a liner/frame lock.
  • I think you're right, I didn't notice it initially. Maybe I can find or make a better video.

  • YSK how to close a folding or pocket knife with a liner/frame lock.
  • I can't speak to the design. I've just worked with this type of knife for years and I thought it was a fairly standard design.

I'm not advocating for one design over another, I'm just trying to spread awareness.

  • YSK how to close a folding or pocket knife with a liner/frame lock.
  • This is true, everyone has an option, however education is helpful. The more people that understand how things work, the less likely they are to hurt themselves if they encounter it.

  • YSK how to close a folding or pocket knife with a liner/frame lock.

No matter what sort of work you do, at some point you end up needing a sharp edge. I usually have a small folding knife with me for just such occasions. Sometimes, other people need the sharp edge so I lend them my knife. Now, they can open it fore sure, but almost everyone is confused on how to close the knife.

I even had one co-worker who ended up disassembling my knife trying to figure out how to close the darn thing!

It's just a skill people seem to not have and they should as it's a very popular design.

I have included a link to a video which illustrates how to close a knife. The video is not mine.
