What? These students see people dressed in black carrying rifles all the time? This doesn't make any sense at all to me. Err, a political assassin is way less scary than a mass shooter.
If only we lived in countries that allowed people to age gracefully and with support. Car dependency is awful in so many ways, and while I'm not denying culpability, many of our old people are driving long past when they should because the alternatives are basiclly homebound and bleak.
Sounds like you're on board for the revolution right away, but it is legitimate to ask if we can fix the problems of this Supreme Court within the system we currently exist in.
I'm not sure whether some of these powers are executive or congressional, but past presidents have talked about adding more justices to the court, and I've also heard mention of removing lifetime appointments. I think the first is an executive power and the second is congressional? I'm also not sure how this specific situation can be dealt with now that the ruling has been made, but it sure seems like this court is disregarding precedence left and right... Sorry, I'm not a legal scholar, but I'm also interested in the answer to this question.
When you can no longer afford to buy things, including furniture, at stores, thrifting as a habit become an errand. Not one that takes long enough to meet up with a friend, I agree, but it is a slightly different headspace than going shopping.
I had a similar feeling of overwhelm when I heard how many kitchen sponges have been found with fecal matter contamination. I've since switched to Swedish dishcloths and hope to never touch a sponge again in my life.
I got really excited about the Pirate Party in Iceland a few years ago. I'm not sure what happened to them (it's hard to get news from other countrues sometimes) but one of their big initiatives was a crowd-sourced constitution. It was the first time I'd thought about something like that being really possible, and I think that if it weren't for the one percent of the population who are megalomaniacs, the internet could be truly democratizing.
In the meantime, sign a strike card on the completely decentralized https://www.generalstrikeus.com/, which is also a pretty exciting notion to me. Sadly, I'm now considering what leaders might float to the top if we ever do reach 3.5% of the population... Decentralized organizing does not mean decentralized leadership. Hm, i'll have to think about that more.
We are getting to a point of no return... or at least a return that would be very, very difficult to achieve. But it's all done in a very calculated way to make you feel like everything is going fine if you're not directly affected. It's fine if the Supreme Court approves of these power grabs, right? And, how can I pay attention when there's so much going on, right? But Trump is demonizing groups of people as enemies, defying constitutional rights, and making power grabs never before seen from the executive branch in this country. It's only been a few months and it keeps getting worse.
Honestly, it happens at least four or five times a year on average. Not kidding, you found out my secret.
